Noob questions

A friend of mine has a corn snake and he knows a breeder that can get me one for a good deal.

I've been reading a lot about the care of corns for about a week now, and I've decided to most likely go with a 20 gal. tank. I've also been looking into UTH vs. heat lamp and I have some questions about that too.

First: If I go with UTH, do I need one on each side?

Second: If I go with UTH, does the tank have to be real glass, or is plexiglass or acrylic OK?

Thanks for any help!

You just need the UTH for one end, under the tank. Then it needs either a rheostat or a thermostat to keep the temp under control. Unregulated, a UTH can reach 120F or higher. AFAIK, they are safe to use on plastic- hopefully someone can confirm that. Acrylic scratches way easier than glass.

As long as they are regulated they are perfectly safe to use on plastic. But you need to make sure you prop the tank up with something to allow for air flow.
