I've been told that in the winter, I should lower the temperature in the vivarium to allow my Californian Corn to hibernate.

Which month should I do this, and what temperature is safe for my snake?

What month do I change the temperature back to normal?

I'm a first time snake owner so please help me out!

Many thanks, Veni

I don't think you need to let it hibernate unhless you are planning to breed it. But if you do december is the month to lower the temp.

My Corns that I am breeding had their last meal Nov.20. Left on heat till Dec. 7th. Then placed in basement till Feb. 20th. The temps went between 50*- 65* according to outside temps. All is well and breeding now...

I didn't even bother with brumation and they are breeding.

You do NOT need to brumate your corn unless you are breeding though. It can give a better chance at breeding. But if its your pet then forget about it.

And what do you mean "California corn" ??? Are you sure you don't have a California kingsnake?

Okies - I aint breedin so I wont bother doing it. Thanks for the advice.

Sienna's a rescue snake - he was found stray and the vets where I work let me keep him. The knew he was a corn but they weren't sure which kind.

When I bought all his heating equipment, vivarium etc... I noticed they had some snakes very similar which they said where californian corns.

I have sinch seen pictures of Miami corns and think he may be one of those -

- maybe if I take a photo and post it at a later date sumone here could identify him for me?!

Thankies, Veni
