What kind of ratsnake is this?

I bred my het leucistic black rat to a blackrat (well...maybe an everglades X blackrat cross...long story....in nutshell...roommate had cat, cat knocked over cages while I was out of town, male black rat not found, female everglades rat not found, both eventually found in same box in room coiled around each other, happened to be breeding season, roommate put male and female everglades together anyway, saw copulation, eggs laid...but seemed a little earlier than expected if everglades rat was father, offspring a little odd...end of nutshell) First pic is mother and other pics are offspring.
This baby is WAY redder than any of the others...almost a hypo? :shrugs:
Looks like I have another keeper!

I can see why baby is a keeper - gorgeous looking little one. I don't know ratsnakes well enough to even guess as to the parentage - but if it turns out to look anything like momma - it is going to be a stunner!
Het leucistics, at least black rats, are called "rusty" black rat snakes. With the (jmho) close relationship of the various north American rat snakes I'm not surprised that the het leucy babies you have look like they do. Here's a ? Do you have a clutch pic of all the hatchlings together?
Mom is really nice looking, but she sure isn't a black rat :)
ahh misread your post a bit, Jeff (need more coffee)...I'm betting you got a mix of light and dark babies out of the clutch? If dad was homozygous leucistic every one of the babies should (theoretically) have clutched out looking like your keeper

No, I don't have a clutch picture. But I can take pics of all the babies. I think you are right about the rusty rats being the leucistic in the het form. However, I have three disticnt colored babies in this group. I have normals, rustys and then these nice red ones. I think part of the complication is the male was a het leucy X that female pictured.
I'll try to get pics of the others this weekend to show the difference.
Cool, had to look at them again, and you're right; the baby pic you posted is brighter than a rusty is, for sure. Maybe some influence from the everglades? Sure is neat looking, Jeff

Here are some pictures I took on the diversity in the clutch. I have pics of the super (bright) one, what I believe are rustys and then the normals.

The babies are nice but I'd really love to see more of the mother!

I hate to be the one to tell you Jeff the pic of the adult is a corn cross. There is no keel to the scale or it is highly reduced

Maybe...but she was born in my collection and at to my knowledge there was never a chance to be with a corn. I was in Europe and my roommate was taking care of things so there is a chance something got screwed up. :shrugs: The only possibilities that I was informed of was the black rat X everglades or everglades X everglades.

I'm call you. too much to right I have had black rat X everglades they look green with some yellowish color.
Do you have a pic of the everglades that was used in the cross and are the scakles keeled on this snake in the pic. I'm not trying to bust chops . You are a very stand up guy . We have had many conversation. I respect you as a person and a breeder. I know that you are one of the few honest, nice guys in the business. I highly recomend buying form Jeff Mohr. Is it possible the black rat that was used had some bubblegum rat i it???
