Questions about Substrate

So I currently use ASPEN substrate (I Believe) with a mixture of the dirt you buy from the pet store. So far I love it, but thinking about changing the landscape of their cage. Is there a recommended substrate? If so do you have pictures of what you use so I can make a choice based on not only what others use, but what looks good to my eyes...

Thanks

Newspaper, astroturf, aspen shavings. No sand or other substrate made with sand as the snake can become impacted. If you wanna go aesthetically pleasing, take a look at some of the vendors at a local show who should have some nice vines, caves, hides, etc for your snake. I use newspaper and Raydin still manages to get himself underneath to hide after he eats. Put it this way, if your snake burrows, allow him to do so and keep using a substrate that will allow him to do so. Your local pet stores should also have things like cage backgrounds which always add to it. You can buy these per square inch or foot I believe. Measure your cage, take a look at what they have to offer and maybe grab one of those to add a different look to the cage? Also, some people use stuff around the house like toilet paper rolls, twisty ties, yarn, etc to create tunnels or overhanging hides above the ground, almost like a jungle gym. I've seen some cool pics of what people have done on here. Look around at other threads using the search engine at the upper right hand of the screen. Type in "viv" or other key words and see what other ideas you come up with. I'm sure others will chime in soon. Good luck and take pics when you get it all decorated up so we can see. Later bud.

Still looking for help on this matter

Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : viv

What I would really like to see if possible are pictures of what people are currently using as substrate. I've already dont a search on substrate/picture and haven't seen anything to really help further my decision

Hey Hassie, sorry about the vague or broad term I gave you. I searched tanks and came up with some threads for you to look at.

New type of substrate, very different look (if you wanna go natural)

I'll let someone else chime in on this. Just wanted to add since I wasn't exactly helpful last time. Good luck.

The majority use Aspen anyway.

I've heard from others, and personally found that carefresh has dehydrated the skin of my snakes causing shedding issues. I suppose it might depend on your house humidity too, making a dry room even drier.
