UTH Temp. Problem?

R.W.

Call me Richard
Okay here goes. When I put the thermometer probe on top of the substrate, it reads at about 85-86F, but when I put directly up against the glass with NO substrate on top of it, it read around 90F. When I cover the probe with substrate it gets to around 95-96F. Is, this a problem? I never see her burrow, and I have never seen any tunnels in the aspen, but is a high risk, or what? I have a ZOOMED rheostat set to the lowest notch but I think I'm going to get a self-adjusting thermostat. Would do you think? :shrugs:

90F is a bit high, you can get a thingy where you can control the intensity, you can set in on low in the summer and high in the winter... sorry, i probably didn't help much.

ZooMed rheostats are notorious for not dialing down low enough. You need a better (and cheaper) rheostat or a thermostat.

A store bought lamp dimmer, sold at WalMart for $9 will dial down low enough, or you can use the thread on this forum to build your own for about $7 that will work very well. Or get a thermostat like the ZooMed 500R (their thermostat is actually good for the price, unlike their rheostat) for $23 plus shipping at various online vendors. reptiledirect.com reptilesupply.com, others.
