Is this normal for bulk frozen Pinks?

Ordered my first batch of frozen pinkies & noticed that lately as I pull them out to feed to my guys, they are missing legs & tails...huh? What's up w/ that? Is this normal or do I need to change companies? Any suggestions on what maybe I'm doing wrong? The legs & tails are at the bottom of the freezer bag. Are they still getting the full nutrition missing legs & tails??

Feel free to through out any suggestions. I know its better to breed my own or get them from a local store. I've done the store thing & well I prefer the online bulk better.

Just curious if this is normal....TIA :)

In a word...yes.

When the pinkies freeze their limbs and tail become breakable. From handling and shipping they often break off.

Who ever claimed it was better to buy from a local store?

Anyway, yes it's common, apparently more common with Rodentpro than some of the others.

Thanks yall, yup it was from Rodentpro. Anyone else you'd recommend? Will be making another order here soon. TY!

So now what do I do w/ the limbs & tails? lol j/k

I bought once online.... from Mice Direct... for pinkies and little things like that I cant complain but for the larger mice and rats.... I didnt like them. The size really wasnt represented correctly, plus I dont mind some size dif in the bag but when you get rats that are supposed to be weanlings and they are the size anywhere from a small mouse to med rat... thats abit much. I would order pinies from them again but nothing once it gets fur.

I've always had good luck with Big Cheese Rodent Factory. I know of several members who really like The Mouse Factory. Big cheese is a bit cheaper than TMF and I've always had good results with them, so that's why I've stuck with them. That and I can't afford to splurge too much on mice!
I just received an order of mice from BCRF this week and there were quite a few broken legs and tails in my package of small pinks. Pinkies are just more brittle, nothing unusual.

They make a nice stir-fry. :grin01:

I've heard good reports on both The Big Cheese and the Mouse factory. I;ve never ordered frozen mice to be shipped myself, I breed my own and when I did buy frozen I bought from American Rodent at my local show. Quality was good but their sizing was a bit off. 17-19g is NOT an adult mouse in my opinion.

Being in cali you might try LLL I haven't bought from them yet although I will be taking a trip up there soon. Their prices are a bit more expensive but if you can drive into one of their shops you might be able to save $30+ on shipping

What's the addy for LLL? Would love to look into that one if it is driving distance.

The Big Cheese & The Mouse Factory are really grt names...lol
It does makes since that the pinkies would be more fragile.

TA guys! :D

if you are getting a bunch of rodents online is still cheaper than 3L

I put the limbs in to make a nice soup.

Big Cheese mice are much more consistant in size and quality.
I preffer Big Cheese to Rodent Pro or Mouse Factory.
I have tried all three.
Mouse Factory was more expensive then both and size wasn't as consistant as Big Cheese.
BUT..even though I preffer Big Cheese I usually use Rodent Pro.
Quality and size consistency don't live up to Big Cheese but the bottom line is...Rodent Pro is cheaper and my snakes eat their mice.
Makes my choice easier considering I order 700 to 900 at a time.

I've used Rodent Pro, Big Cheese and TMF. TMF stands alone at the top...by far.

Rodent Pro is garbage, period. :puke01:

Their pinkies break and are in pieces because they don't vacuum seal any of their product.

Both Big Cheese and TMF vacuum seal and have their mice on trays---at least anything above the fuzzy level. Makes everything a lot easier, and the quality is much, much better.

I'd rather spend the extra $50 per order on TMF and know that I'm getting a quality product that helps with growth. I wasn't all that impressed with Big Cheese and what they had to offer. I felt like their hoppers were pretty small and all of their mice had a pretty weird smell to me---at least to me. TMF's fuzzies were bigger than Big Cheese's hoppers.

So basically, I've yet to find something that rivals TMF in quality and size. I don't envision myself going elsewhere---in fact, I just placed a 2200+ piece mouse order with TMF two weeks ago. Everything looks fantastic, like usual.

I wonder if the limbs could be fed as a little snack to the snake
Wouldn't be worth the effort. The limbs and tails are tiny.

I'm a big TMF fan. The pinks come nearly 100% intact. The tails and legs don't start breaking off until I've rummaged around in the bags after opening them.

It happens, but there should only be a few in a fifty pink pack. If more than a few, the packages aren't being handled carefully enough. That being said, I will sometimes snap off the legs of a pinkie if I think it's a bit too big for the snake, and the limbless body is easier to swallow.

In California, I've found the best combination of price/shipping/quality is themousefactory.com.

Cool thanks I think I'm gonna start using that one. Offtopic @jaxom-Just out of curiousity I live in Merced pretty close to you is there a good vet there the one here was new to snakes? Can you pm with names or something thanks

I've yet to need one, but I have a couple of friends I'll check with to see who they use.

Got my large pinks & fuzzies in from The Mouse Factory! And I do notice a big difference in packaging, smell etc. These little guys seem to have a more pleasant smell :sidestep: I just could not get over how many legs & tails even ears were missing...lol That's extra nutrients my guys are missing out on. LOL

TA!
