Raising heat in the tank lowering it in my room

NFS07

Stolen
I have noticed that my corn has been staying on the heated side of the tank a lot. I'm not sure if it's because I moved his fav. hide to the warm side or if the cool side is too cold for him. I think that it's fine and the levels are what they should be but I'm dieing in my room. I sit here and it's so hot and I don't want to have an AC because than he'll be really to cold and a fan works but they bother me. So I have two questions, should I just move the hide and see if he follows it or should I try to raise the temp on the "cool" side?

The warm side is between 85 and 90 through out the day.
The cool side is between 75 and 80 through out the day, it does drop to 69 if I keep my door open and the AC in the living room is on.

I take it that you're not using a UTH or other external heat source? Or am I just missing something?...which is entirely possible.

Evidently I am missing something because why don't you just either leave your door or a vent open to allow the A/C to cool your room and allow the UTH to heat the warm side? The UTH shouldn't be putting off enough heat to warm your whole room. And a cool side of 70 should be fine. If you're worried add an extra hide between the warm and cool side to give him more options to choose from temperature-wise.

I'm sorry if I'm totally missing the point.

This is his tank. The top is the warm side, it has a clay thing and fake plants on that side and the bottom in the cool side with a little coco hut, which you can't see from the angle I took the pic, as well as the fake vine. He has stuff on both sides.

The reason I can't open the door is; one the temp will drop to 69 or lower and two my dog likes to try and eat the snake through the glass.

I know the UTH is not heating my room it's a small room and I put of heat, it's putting off a little heat and it's been hot outside so my room gets hot.

Do you not have an A/C vent in your room? If not, it seems to me that the only option is to open the door at least part way. Like I said, he will be fine with a cool side around 70 and the UTH will be able to keep the warm side at the proper temperature. Maybe just find something to baracade the doorway to keep the dog out. It just seems that your options are fairly limited, unless you are willing to buy a window A/C unit for your room...:)

Nicole you can try moving his fave hide back to the cool side if you are concerned. But the temp range is fine. I wouldn't worry.

I have the same problem with keeping my bedroom door closed. Unless it affects the temp on the warm side, I wouldn't worry about keeping it closed either.

Why not set up a ceramic heat emiter (works like a heat lamp but puts off no light) this would allow you to keep temps in his cage up while cooling your room off.

Sounds like he has the same problem I do. My room is just plain hot! :D I have the door open and a fan blowing on me and I still sweat sometimes. The snakes seem to love it though.

You're snake may go to the cool side at night when you are asleep. I noticed my snake was always on the warm side under his fav rock. I was also concerned like you, so I switched his rock to the cool side and put a different hide on the warm side to see what he would do. He stayed on the warm side and abandoned the fav rock on the cool side. I put his rock back and didn't worry anymore. I figure he may go to the cool side at night while I'm sleeping. Afterall, he's the snake and knows what he needs.
My point is try not to worry as long as the temps are in range. The ceramic heat emitter is a good idea too.
