So I got my Sterilites yesterday, now I have to go buy a soldering iron and make the ventilation holes, but I need an idea of how many to do. The rack will have open sides and back, so I don't have to do all the holes in the front of the bins. I'm pretty happy with how clear the bins are (Sterilite 66 qt)- I think I'm going to be able to see my snakes! So, if anyone could post pics of your bins, that would be great.

Here is my AP economy rack with the tubs (but no snakes) in it. I put two rows of holes on all 4 sides of the tubs. I just kinda did what I thought would give proper ventilation, but at the same time not cause much of a loss of humidity (as it can get pretty dry here in Colorado).

Hey, that's my rack! Only I'll just have five 66 qt tubs. Do you like it? Thanks for the perfect picture! Was it hard to assemble?

No problem! I love this rack, its perfect for my snakes. I really like how easy the tubs slide in and out, and I like how it is not enclosed. The sterilite bins are pretty clear too. I just wished that the heat cable was situated about an inch farther up. It barely touches the ends of the bins. Not sure if anyone else thinks differently.

It was very very easy to assemble. All holes are already pre-drilled and the instructions are very simple to follow. Didn't take me long at all.

If the bins slide in and out, how/where do you attach the thermostat probe and the thermometer probes??

I know you know this already but I gotta say it. My hatchling escaped. Make those holes tiny if you house hatchlings in tubs. I made mine smaller than the head, (so I thought) and the little guy got out.

Seems that rack pictured isn't for hatchlings anyway but I just thought I'd mention it.

Where do you get that rack? I like it uh lot!
 
It's from Animal Plastics. That is the Economy Plastic rack.

The snakes going in it are one two-year old and two nearly six-month olds. If I think the babies look like they could get out an air hole, I'll just put them in ten gallons for now, and put Addy and Zee in the rack. I'm hoping they'll be nice big fat babies, though.

The one I am getting is not on their website. It holds five 66 qt Sterilites that are 12" tall. I just feel better that they can have climbing room, if they want.

Yeah, that's exactly why I ended up making one that holds the 90qt sterilites. Nanci - if you go to walmart, look in the automotive section. There'll probably be a cheapish (under $6 is what I paid here) black soldering iron. The tip is very small so the holes are also pretty small. Except for the fumes, it was sorta fun making the holes.
 
Didn't keep the packaging or I'd take a shot of that for you, too. This iron was next to the fuses and stuff on the auto isle at WM:

here's a shot of the tip, just to get an idea of the size. When the tip punches through, I let the flat part of the iron splat against the side of the bin which actually made a nice look.

Well, at least I can do it outside! It's up to 65F now! (Brrr) I turned on the heat pump (that's southern for furnace- actually, it's different, I don't know why they don't have real furnaces) this morning, though it hasn't run yet. Got down to 48F last night!

I've been struggling to get one thermostat to keep two vivs the same temp- I bought a new UTH to match the other one, (figuring the old one of a different, cooler make had just gotten too old- it was running 10F cooler) then the new one was TOO hot, then I looked at where the probe for the thermostat was (on Choco's) and it had come loose and was on top of the aspen, so I got it positioned correctly, then rearranged Inez and took away her carpet and moved a bigger hide to on top of the UTH (she always stays far from that corner, but was in there this morning). If I can't get them to match, I'll have to buy another thermostat- but they were ok last winter! Thank God for max/min dual-probed thermometers, so I know what's going on without having to sit there and watch.

Now it's time to go buy hides and vines for the new tubs!

Nanci, I just put a hole in the side of one of the middle bins where I could thread the probe through and taped it to the inside of the tub. It sucks if its not cleaning day and for some reason you need to take out the tub, but its the only solution I could ever come up with.

And I have a tiny hatchling in a shoebox tub and I used the same size soldering holes for hers as the adults, and she cannot escape.

What I like about this AP rack, is that you can use either the 32qt or 15qt tubs in it, as both have the same height measurements.
 
Almost forgot, when I get home from work today, I could probably take a picture of the occupied rack with the thermometer probes and thermostat probe. The gap on the top of the bins is just small enough that I can put the thermometer probe through that way instead of using another soldered hole in the tub.
 
Animal Plastics sells 66qt racks? I just went to the site and I can only find 32 qt racks. Was this an older rack or am I just not looking in the right place? I love my AP rack, but I would like a rack that can hold larger tubs.
 
Nanci called them and they offer the 66qt racks, they are not advertised on their website. Jessica, your reaction was the same as mine! I wish I knew about these racks before I got the 32qt model!

Nanci, sorry I forgot to take pictures for you! I went home after a 12 hour shift and went to bed. Now I am at work again for another 12 and just remembered, oops! And, I will be leaving tomorrow for 4 days out of town. I am sure you can figure out the thermostat/thermometer thing anyway ;)

Everything is manufactured to order. Due to our current order volume, despite

(I found out about this rack when I e-mailed them to find out if they had a 9" rack. They said no, but they had a 12", which was even better!!!!!!!)

(I'm outside melting holes right not- it's going to take forever, and is not as easy as it looks! I practiced on jJake's feeding bin...)

It's hard to believe these have more room than a 20L...But still, I'm satisfied with how it looks- not too LAM (lab animal method).
