Being genetically predisposed to fret about everything (thanks, Mom!), I was at the very least slightly concerned about how well my 4 new babies would eat for me today, given that this was both their first meal with me and their first f/t ever.

I shoudn't have! :dancer:

Alice (anery stripe F), the largest and who was in Blue when she arrived on Wednesday, was a bit squirmish but ate the pink with little fanfare. She shed last night. It tore in two, but the tail tip and eye caps were all present so I was happy but my son was dissapointed that the shed wasn't a keeper (plus, Alice kindly packaged up a big poop for me in there).

Ralph (anery mot M) was more interested at first in making his big escape, but then nailed the pink, coiled up around it and munched with gusto.

Ed (anery stripe M), he who tagged me multiple times on Wednesday, was still very defensive... rattling and striking at anything that moved. Hit the tongs and the pink several times before realizing it was breakfast, but once that realization set in, went to work on it fairly quickly. He's the runt of the group, so it took him a little longer to get the small pink down, but it did go.

Trixie (anery mot F) who is the sweetheart of the bunch, wouldn't let go of my finger. She hit the pink in the midsection and pulled if up into my palm. Took her forever to move around to the head, but once she did that, she ate well, too.

All in all... very pleased! Except now I have to find something else to worry aobut. :shrugs:

Let me get another meal or two in them then I'll get some pics up in the photo forum.

Yep, my keeper female and the het blood I got from in-man are evil! I love the 'tude from a little worm!

Congratulations! FT- it's what's for dinner! (Wish I could remember who first said that to me...) (Checkerbelly, that's who!)

Well!! THAT didn't take long. :angry01:

Vern regurged this morning sometime. I fed her 2 pinks Friday night. She ate the first one fine, but the second one only because it was there and not with any gusto at all.

I took her out of the viv, removed all apen and sifted through it to make sure there weren't any other surprises in there. Vern was coild up directly on top of the UTH (temp was 84*F). Cleaned and sanitized everything, and put in a couple inches of fresh aspen.

One thing I knowI need to improve. I have a 20L viv, but the UTH I got is the 10/20 gal size. That might be okay for a 20 regular viv, but I think it just doesn't cover enough of the 'floor space' of the 20L, especially now that the season's changing. Plus, I had her 'warm hide' a little off the UTH and so the temperature in there just wasn't warm enough for her to digest. Right now, it's squarely centered on the UTH. I don't really want to disturb her more, so I'll wait until her feeding in 10 days to replace the UTH.

I feel bad because this is my fault.

Poor Vern :awcrap:

Don't worry too much about the viv setup. It sounds fine. Even with the smaller heat mat. Vern knew where to go for heat. Snakes are smarter than we give them credit for sometimes. I think the second pink might have been too much for Vern. Give her 7-10 days then feed her a small meal. I am sure she will be fine.

Thanks. I'm thinking one wee tiny pink Wednesday Week (what folks where I grew up would call Wednesday after next). Then give her 5 or 6 days to fully digest that and give her another single pink the size she's used to. Then if all's well, resume double pinks, but on a 5 day schedule instead of 4. Wasn't trying to power feed her or anything...just sticking to the MP. Even with 2 pinks, she'd be out and about her viv 2 days after feeding, and by the 4th day was in serious 'find food' mode. This time she wasn't quite that active... another clue I missed.

Congrats on the good feedings. Sorry you had one regurg.

It is a nice feeling when things go well and humbling when we have a mess up. Even if it wasn't your fault, which I don't think the regurg was.
