hello again!

first of all, thanks to those that commented on my last post

a few more quick questions. yesterday i invested in a thermostat and my snake :). so far everything's going well but i don't feel like the thermostat is being as accurate as i want it to. for example, i had turned the dial so that the heat source would turn off at about 85-88 degrees and although it's working for the most part, i checked it once yesterday and it had gotten to 91. so i turned it down. and then it wasn't going any higher than 77. it's been pretty stable all day, but i can't watch it all the time and i'm worried! any suggestions?

also, it is quite cold in my apartment. is it worth investing in another thermometer with a probe for the cold side? and possibly a heating light?

last question i swear! :smash: my water dish is on the cold side and when i changed the water it felt a bit too cold. would a heating light take care of this?

thanks in advance! you guys are incredibly helpful. and i will be posting pictures soon :)

It will take a while for you to adjust the thermostat to get it where you want it. It is a good idea to check it often, even after you think you got it right. I check mine about 3-4 times a day. As long as it keeps the temps in the 80's I usually leave it alone.

Yes, it would be a good idea to have a thermometer for your cool side. You want to the temps to stay somewhere in the 70's range.

I wouldn't mess with it. Cool to you is probably fine to your snake. As long as the temps on your cool side are ok, the water is fine.

I've been trying to get Zee's thermostat dialed in since Friday night. Really, the only thing that can make it easier is to buy a proportional thermostat that adjusts the amount of power to the mat, rather than an on/off thermostat which turns off according to the temp you set. Heat mats continue to get a little hotter even after the power is cut off to them. I wouldn't be surprised to see a ten degree swing in temperature. The bad thing about proportional thermostats is they cost $110 and up. But- then you're done messing around. I'm not saying you're a bad snake owner if you don't provide the top of the line thermostat- just saying you can end your frustrations for a price!
