HAVING SERIOUS TEMP TROUBLE

Ok my little guy is in the viv and he was moving around a bit which made me so happy, I had to change out the thermomator in the viv because I had a cheapo in there and I ran by Petsmart and picked up another digital one for a better reading and he came over there to see what I was doing which was really COOL (I dont know if he wanted to eat me or just see what I was doing). The problem started about an hour ago his temps are way off. His cool side is 77 78 degrees and the warm side is 80 to 83 degrees and I'm starting to get really stressed. I cant get the cool side cool and the warm side warm. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please hurry.

I have both but I'm trying to figure out which one to use right now. temps are 78 cool and 81 hot so I know something is wrong. thats off of mat alone. but should the probes be in the aspen or an inch off of the viv floor?

I put mine in the apen but thats just me (I like to see what the belly of my snakie feels). Your temps look alright, maybe put the heat lamp on a low wattage over the heatpad?

How big is the heat mat? It should cover between 1/3 and 1/2 of the bottom. Also, what material is your viv made out of?

I would take the light out entirely. Usually, they just dry out the viv. The heat mat should be able to take care of your heating.

You should also be measuring the temps at the HOTTEST point the snake can touch (IE right above the heatmat inside the viv).

Put the probe RIGHT on the glass on the center of the UTH, under the substrate. Its going to be MUCH higher than 81 degrees.

77 for the cool side is fine.

Thank you. It was getting late and I was ready to go to bed and I had to get his temps right before I could go to sleep. Thanks everyone.
