Gig 'Em Ags!! Whoop!!
Howdy! I went out yesterday for a few hours and found a few snakes, sadly though, I only took pictures of one with my digital camera and the rest are on film that needs to be developed. The one I took pictures of was a pretty cool encounter with a Texas Rat. I was walking down one of the trails at the local park and I decided to check out this mound that had a lot of leaf litter and some limbs down on it, and when I walked to the backside I noticed a shed. I picked it up and was examining it to try and determine what type of snake it was when I look up and see this huge 4' Texas Rat coming down out of the tree right in front of my face lol! Needless to say the guy was a little irritated with me grabbing him and he took some shots, gaped a lot, charged with his "cobra" S going, and was a lot of fun to deal with. Anyways, I took some pictures with the 35mm and remembered to take pictures with my digital point and shoot as well, so here those are. Snakes also found on the day were a beautiful, light baby southern copperhead, and a nasty ribbon snake. Hope ya'll enjoy!

Wow, he's pretty! I love the pink tones. I've never seen one of those in real life.

Thanks for the comments ya'll. He was a nasty little bugger, but he was fun to take a couple pictures of :)

me either. so how long have you been dealing with common snakes. I get very nervous around them. I dont really know why. I got bite when I was really young but I'm over that.

4drbeemr - I have been fascinated with local fauna since I can remember, but I didn't really start becoming fascinated with field herping until last spring. I spent most of my life up until Fall 2005 in Iowa where there are very few native herps, so as soon as I came back to Texas I was stoked about how many species there are here and how easy it is to find them. I got REALLY fascinated with hots for a while, but now I'm hoping to find a few more of the rarer non-venomous herps in our area.

Thank you all again for the compliments I'm hoping to get my other pics developed soon, and hopefully after Christmas I won't ever have to develop pics again...if you know what I mean ;) lol Canon 40D WHOOP!!

How lucky is that? Great shots Payton. I wish we had stuff like that up here. Again, nice pictures, I can't wait to see the ones you have to develop.
Jay

Great snake and photos! I know it's really hissed, but it looks like it's smiling for the camera...that stupid grin little boys make when they would rather be doing ANYTHING other than smiling for the camera!

LOL Susan that's exactly what I thought! I tried to get a few of him gaping but they all came out blurry. Hopefully a few came out on the film I'm getting developed soon :)
