Ok time to tell you whats been going on. i been having mice (now 7) for 2 weeks and since day one my eye's have been HURTING. so bad i been to the doctor 4 times in the last 2 weeks. its crazy. and i was going to try and bare with it. but its just getting to be to much.

now there a chance am not Allergic. but if i am. are mice and rats the same? what about African soft hair rats that i hear so much about. Now i had a pet rat a few years ago had no Allergic reactions too it? what am i too do...help:confused:

Do you have live mice that are causing the problem? If so, switch to f/t and wash your hands like crazy. I can't help you on the African soft hair rats. I don't know much about them or allergies to them.

i had to buy my mice frozen but then i started breeding them 2 weeks ago. i was fine with feeding Frozen mice. now i have 7 live ones in my room.

Are you using a different bedding for the mice the you do for your snakes? My thought is it may be the bedding you are allergic to. Possibly even something in the feed. susang

first they where on the same bedding as then snakes then i gave then newspaper. there feed is fine. Am pretty sure its not that. i pwn a rabbit has the same basic feed. and i had him for years.

You can most definitely be allergic to the mice. I am personally VERY allergic to my rats, I get terrible hayfever and my eyes swell up so badly that I look like I have been punched in the eye. I now handle them as little as possible and scrub my hands and arms up to the elbow after handling them (which you should be doing with ANY pet in any case) and I never bring my hands near my face after handling the rats.

You could also be allergic to sawdust if that is what you are using. I'm a horse rider and we bed our horses and sawdust and believe me, it's a common allergy! :)

My rats are in a room seperate from the rest of the house, so I am lucky, I would not be able to keep them if they were in the house.

You might look at breeding hamsters or gerbils instead I am sure others can give you info on breeding them. As for the allergy. I would think the most likely culprit would be the mice themselves. The reason you have likely had no issues with f/t is that they are frozen then you defrost them in water so they are moist which prevents any dander or other dust particles form leaving them to irritate your allergies.

its almost 3 in the morning sorry if my spelling is off i cant see right...these mice are driving me crazy my eyes hurt,am coughing and sneezing and its now even hard to breath.my mice are about 5 feet away frrom me in my bedroom.. am really thinking its the mice. Maybe i should wait i few more days. but if its them there going in the freezer, i cant take this anymore. Maybe i will not breed anything. i dont know i didnt think corn snakes eat gerbils. i used to breed them.

Most corns will eat gerbils but same may not. I have one that REFUSES to eat rats even! (Some "Rat snake" he turned out to be) but all my others do...I would perhaps buys some gerbils and see if they will eat them before buying some to breed with...

what i kinda dont understand is that i have a rabbit. (perfect with him) i bred gerbils in the 100's (perfect with them) Had a pet rat before (Perfect with her) but these Mice are killing me! is there really that much of a change in there furr or something? do you think i can breed hairless rats? or something? what do corn snakes eat other then mice

Well, I know that some feed Gerbils and hamsters...

Yes, I do think you can be allergic to one rodent and not to any others...I'm VERY allergic to the rats but not to mice, hamster or rabbits at all. I'm allergic to dogs too but not to cats. lol

thank you everyone. i just dont know. sorry if i sound mean. am just so upset that i cant sleep and am Kinda mad about this whole thing about my mice. this has been going on for 2 week with very little sleep. i going to have to look in to gerbils or hamsters. i think am a little scared of trying with rats. (even though i had one and was fine with it it was a long time ago) that the whole thing might turn in to this. i will have to do some reseach. on this Asap.

I say get ride of the mice now. Clean everything you can clothes your bedding and the cage they were in and see if that helps.

i will have too soon if not 2morrow even its not the mice. its only 7 bucks worth of food. and my snakes eat it anyway. i will have to clean out everything and wash things like you said am scared to let this go on. i have very bad breathing, do to bad Asthma and i have nearly died from it about 4 times. this would be very foolish of me if i didnt act now. rather then later. just to save 7 buck worth of mice. I know some people might hate me now but i might have to Freeze the mice. (sorry i hate to do it.in such a painful way. i didnt get a c02 tank)

You could always wack them as well. or goto the store and get a pound of dry ice as that will produce plenty of co2 just put it in a bucket of warm water inside their tank it should fill it up and hopefully work.

It would be kinder to dislocate their necks with a pencil or to just give them a good hard whack on the head, hitting their heads on a hard surface works will and is quick.

Freezing live adults or anything bigger than a pinkie is not humane...I would feel worse about doing that than just whacking them on the head...personally I don't agree with live freezing pinkies either...

then i will kill them that way. i kinda dont care on how i get rid of them. but before i do that i got to tell my father. he seems rather upset this morning. about me saying i wanted to kill my mice over some "Allergic" thing. i guess he thinks i just cant stand them. but really its far worst then that. i didnt get any sleep last night. and everything else is really bad.

If your father is upset, could you keep them somewhere besides your room?

I was super allergic to guinea pigs when I was a kid- I'd itch even if their fur touched me, not to mention urine. But I still kept three of them because they were so cool. That's the only animal I'm allergic to.

well my mother hates the fact i have mice...i lied about it for a week till her "mother" sences came in and some how she just knew. when i asked how she said i was keeping my room way too clean. LOL but she doesnt wanna even see the mice. so i cant put then anywhere else. she almost it seems glad there making me sick. just because she doesnt wanna see them die....ummm i dont know what she thinking. but thats how there getting out of the house.:smash:
