Has this ever happened to you?

I just bought a fuzzy for Gerard [and a small mouse for Bitti], but since I feed live, I thump them on the head before giving them to the snakes so the mouse won't attack them.

Anywho, when I thumped the fuzzy on the head, blood spurted out of it's nose
:[
I feel horrible.

Is this a common occurance?

I don't know if that's common or not... I feed frozen as well. But the fact is, you're stunning mice... so anything can really happen. Even though nothing really icks me, I'd feel bad if that happened. Maybe try to switch your snakes to frozen so you don't have to deal with it?

Because live mice have more nutrients.

Because live mice have more nutrients.

Freezing the prey items may well lower the nutritional value slightly, but captive snakes can and do live perfectly healthy lives on a diet of frozen rodents. If the animals are healthy and growing, then presumably their nutritional needs are still being met by the f/t.

If you feel bad killing the mice, frozen/thawed is something to consider, and it is actually safer for your snake as it eliminates any risk of harm from the prey.

You spell it D'uh. lol

Somehow, I get the troll vibe from you at the moment... The nutritonal value only changes slightly so feeding f/t is just fine. I feed pre-killed for 2 reasons: the mice at the pet store are $15 (for 6) and my female mouse just gave birth... if these 2 changed, I'd be feeding frozen.
