Metal Lids

Hey all,

Until now, I have been keeping my snake tank behind a closed door because my two cats love to sit on the tank to watch and one time actually caved in the mesh lid (luckily, Max was found again unscathed!!).

However, I am moving and would love to bring Max out into an open room so that we can all enjoy him. But I am having trouble finding any lids out there that are not that cheapy mesh that my 15lb cat would easily cave in again (I really only have chain stores in my area since it is a small city). Does anyone have any suggestions where to buy these online or how to make a heavy duty metal lid??

Thanks!! :)

I'd just make a heavier duty lid that rests on top of the other lid... use wood and heavy duty mesh. The snake won't hurt itself since the fine stuff is what he would be touching, but the cat wont fall through the heavier stuff.

You could also look at finding a location like a book shelf that would give you only say 6" above the tank lid to the next shelf so the cat can't get up there but you still have access.

Along the lines of what he said, you know how with aquarium they have lid covers? You could even build it yourself with a couple of peices a wood to have it just rest over the tank top.

Although I agree with suggestions above, it would really be a good idea to keep your cats and snakes seperate. If the cats are watching the snakes and being interested, your corns are probably getting stressed from it. Is there no way you could have a cat-free room?

upside down tape

Try putting upside down tape the cats don't like it when the tape sticks to them. That is how I broke my cat from getting on the lid.

For those of us who like being able to see their corns all the time this would really stink.
I now live with my bf and his two cats, my 55 gallon tank is the display peice of the living room, and I'm not about to banish my Nagini to some other room because of the cats >_>
