Size of Mouse Factory mice...

Hi-

I'm making my first order on-line and I remember some people saying how the
Mouse Factories big pinkies are really big. I have 2 babies that weighed in at under 10 grams about 3 weeks ago and one that weighs 16 grams. Should I order the pinkies or the large pinkies? And my adult snakes (2 rat snakes, one Cal King & one Corn) have been taking 2 frozen mice a week, the ones from Petco. Are the ones from the mouse factory bigger, will they only need one a week? Should I move them up to rats or is keeping them on mice OK? I feed my Ball Python one rat a week.

Just trying to figure out what to order. Thanks

I know...I looked at that page, but I'm not good with eyeing things up. I was just wondering if anyone who has ordered them and had babies to feed could give me an idea of which ones would be better. The Munson plan says if the snake is between 4-15 grams to feed one pinkie sized between 2-3 grams. The small pinkies at the Mouse Factory are 1.5 grams and the large ones are 3.5 grams. I have two babies close to 10 grams and one around 16 grams. They've been taking pinkies from Petco, but I'm not sure how they measure up to the Mouse Factory pinkies. See where my dilema is. I don't want to order the large pinkies and have them be too big.

If I were you, I would get a variety of sizes so your snakes can "grow into" the next food size. For example:

1 pack small pinks, 1 pack lg pinks, 1 pack fuzzies, (AND IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY) 1 pack hoppers, 1 pack weanlings.

For your adults, they should be getting 1 adult a week. So get 2 packs of adult mice. Also get whatever size your BP needs. Personally, I find that the fat content in rats is much greater than that in mice, so corns and other non-chubby (colubrid) snakes generally should be on mice or a slightly smaller size rat.

If you have the money and the freezer space, get enough feeders to pack the box. It saves you money in the long run. And I don't really buy that they go bad with time. :shrugs:

Ok, so one mouse a week (the regular adult mice or the jumbo sizes?) for the adults, except for the BP who gets a small rat. And get a couple different sizes for the babies as they grow. Makes sense. I'm just getting enough now for the next couple months. I'll order again after income tax time. :) We file the first week in Feb usually. Then I can place a larger order.

Thank you.

Buy both! That'll save you on shipping, and they'll stay fresh vacuum packed. I would say that right now one should be on one small pink, the other on two smalls. If you slit a large pink really well your larger snake (of the babies) could probably handle their large pinks, but why risk it? (Besides that, I think they are low on large pinks right now, I just made an order..)

The jumbo mice are really big! I got some but I think it will be awhile (if ever!) before my adult corns will be eating them and they are both over 300 grams. I figure my BP will be getting them eventually.

Forgot to add, your babies are gona need the smaller pinks for a while. I just got 3 new hatchlings and the large pinks are too big for them right now.

Thank you, that gives me an idea of where to go then. I am just so sick
of paying the prices at Petco for these mice. I will breed my own eventually, but for now on-line works. :)
