german giant bearded dragons??

hi everyone my friend seems to have a german giant bearded dragon, he said i could have it if i like. and i its friendly? but heres the thing:confused: What are they? i looked up the layout cages and set up for breeded dragons. but i cant find anything on "german giant bearded dragon" how Gaint are they????:eek1: anyone have any photos?

German Giant care is the same as a standard Bearded Dragon and like a normal, I'd recommend keeping an adult in a 4' long, by 2' wide, by 2' tall enclosure.

Like all Bearded Dragons, their adult size depends on how proper their care was and how much protein they received as juveniles. A GG kept under ideal conditions and fed plenty enough can be expected to be 28" long as an adult. Often-times larger, but it depends on what it's crossed with.

I have an adult female who's growth was stunted due to improper UVB as a juvenile and she tops out at 18", instead of the normal 24'ish". It just all depends.

heres a photo i got of it. his had it for a year. doesn't really know how to care for it..i don't know why he thinks since i own corn snakes i know how to take care of bearded dragons? but he thinks its a male. and it needs a bigger cage think. and needs to be cleaned, but thats it. he said he can bring it over. but i don't know what i will do to get another huge cage...

Yea, those living conditions are very poor. It needs a bigger cage and so much more. I would check out the link Nanci posted but if you don't end up getting it make sure you teach your friend about how to properly care for it.

I hope you end up getting it and provide it with a nice, big, clean home!

yes true, he said the heat lamp he had broke and will get another maybe to day.and some food since he ran out. if i do end up with it..still not sure where am going to get a cage. and i be kinda upset if i spend the money i got to buy corn snakes...not a new cage. But the bearded dragon needs some help. i see what i can do.

Oh that poor thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He needs a way bigger cage! If you don't end up keeping him because of housing for him- let me know. I'd take him in a second!

There's a company called glasscages.com who sell cages at the shows in Florida, BUT they also do drop offs in many Florida cities, too. You could see when the next time they'll be down is.

48x24x12 is $125, 48x24x24 is $165.

Then he needs a basking spot at about 105F, ambient temp 85-90 on the warm side. He needs a UVB light- either a fluorescent Reptisun 10.0- and it has to be that brand, or an MVB spot light, as well as full spectrum lighting.

How I have Isabel set up is with a full spectrum spot light and the Reptisun fluorescent.

Here's Isabel's viv: (Which is a 40 breeder and I am getting her a bigger viv- either a 4x2 glass or a Vision cage- undecided yet, but she's a couch potato. See her in the back under her hide?)

The spot light is a 100 watt full spectrum, and she has an 18" fluorescent Reptisun 10, which I place diagonally over her hide and branch. She has probed thermometers on her brick and in her hide.

Then when you get him, you should probably have the vet do a fecal to look for worms and coccidia. Many people think a very low count of coccidia is acceptable, but you don't want him to be overflowing with it. Treatment isn't bad- oral deworming and the coccidia treatment is oral Albon seven days on, seven days off, seven days on- recheck.

Glass Cages will be delivering in Gainesville, Tampa and Orlando January 27th. They drop off at a specified petshop.

Matthew, where have you gotten your info on size? I've never heard of a dragon 28"+.

Darkmorning1, a German Giant is the exact same thing as a regular bearded dragon. When American breeders were inbreeding trying to create bright colored dragons, the German breeders were working a creating a line of large, robust dragons.

A typical american bred dragon average size is 16" - 20", a GG should be 20"- 24".

That poor guy is in a terrible living situation, I do hope you can get him. For the time being you can get the largest rubbermaid you can find to keep him in, it will be better then what he is in now. Also check craigslist for a cheap aquarium/cage.

****Update****

the breaded dragon is coming to my house.Tomorrow i will go pick it up. he said he will try to clean the cage out tonight. we will see about the cages. i will try and find someone with a give away. i really don't want to get a new one. but the one its in now might have to due for about a week. i will have to get to the reptile store buy silk worms and crickets. (from what i read they can eat that) and some veggies and d3?

His staple greens should be collard/mustard/turnip (there's one more- I can't remember!) Calcium dust twice a week, vitamin dust once a week.

Shoot, have to go work...

Like Waldo says- Target, Walmart both sell HUGE Rubbermaids/Sterilites. I use those for toads- they are great for temporary big enclosures! And cheap!

i got him heres photos of his cage i got him in i gave him a new one

really poor tank he was in if tyou wondering all the crickets are coming from my friend would just pure them in and keep them there for like a week

He looks much happier! You know you have to remove the crickets at night, right? (Because they will chew on him, and dragons just don't know to defend themselves from that, plus they konk out _so_ deeply he would never know). And you don't _have to_ keep water in there. I just soak Isabel nearly every day- she gets plenty of water that way, as well as then she poops in the tub. Hey, I've read on bd.org that some of the like the canned silkworms, if you wiggle them around a little. For a change. Is he eating greens for you?
