Hubbys new rat snake-Now what do I do??

What addiction?!
Ok because this isn't a corn I have a couple questions. This is a Grey Rat my hubby got yesterday from a show in St. Louis for $10. Great price!! He walked up to the guy looked at the snakes and said "Hey thats kinda cool. Is it a male or female?" The guy said "You can have it for ten bucks, its a male." So of course he bought it. Any way- the care for them basically the same as for a corn right? How big do they get? He seems under weight, he eats the same as corns too right? I am just wanting to make sure I give the proper care. He is a sweety though and he ate 2 live rat pups as soon as we got home. Hope he liked it, it's his last live. LOL I don't like doing live feeding. (sucker for the mouse):shrugs::dancer:

Very nice! Looks like the "white oak" phase.
Mine is kept under the same conditions as the corns.
They have the potential to reach 7', but most are smaller.
Nice grab.

Very sweet find!! Make sure he is well quarantined for at least a month. You never know why he was such a stealing deal.
Please keep us posted on that beauty!

It's kinda funny. The guy selling him only had one other snake, a corn. He said it was a ghost, looked too dark to be a ghost but who knows. He told my husband he didn't want to take them back home and have to keep feeding them. He sold tanks and some kind of weird looking lizards. So maybe he was just tired of the snake thing. He offered the corn to me for $15, and it was nice and healthy. But I just couldn't spend any more. Shoot at the end of the show one vendor sold all her live mice fuzzies and rat pups for .50 each! So I did grab about 16 of those. :)

I have to agree - that is one beautiful rat snake - and for such a steal! I can see why the hubby couldn't pass him up! Congrats on a great new addition.

I got his twin a few months ago. Local petstore had one that was abandoned in an apartment when the people moved out. They were selling him as a "ghost corn." He ate for me 1 time with f/t and then quit. Absolutely refused everything till petstore happened to have live rat pink/fuzzies. I got one to try and he ate it immediately. I got another one today and he ate it again. Stubborned little snake, but he is neat; you'll enjoy yours. One thing that really amazes me is the feel of the scales. Completely different from corns.

I thought the scales felt pretty neat too.

My husband laughed at me yesterday because I was holding him. He said "I thought you didn't like him?". Have to admit at first I didn't like him ...well I guess they grow on ya! He is a sweetie! :)
