Exo-terra Tanks

Again i dont know the make of the heat matts. Yes i defiantly use a thermostat, and would highly recommend using one.

One tank I have (I think) repti-temp UTHs and a 500R running them. I have a seperate quarentine/hospital 90qt Sterilite bin with a herpstat running an 11in flexwatt tape. And 4 12qt sterilites in a rack also with flexwatt and a herbstat.

Eh. sorry Bruce maybe its my I.Q. but that info went way over my head.:shrugs:

The UTHs I have on the one tank are Zoo-med, who also makes the Repti-Therm 500R thermostat.

A lot of people use plastic bins made by a company called Sterilite to keep snakes in, often in a shelving unit made such that the bottom of the shelf above acts as the lid to the bin on the shelf below it.

Flexwatt is a very thin heating mat, basically a big, flat resistor, that when electrical current runs through it, it gets hot. I think it was initially invented for industrial applications (like keeping pipes from freezing), but turns out to be great for providing heat for reptiles (particularly in a rack system).
I bought my flexwatt from a site called The Bean Farm. Here's a link to their page with the flexwatt. There are links at the bottom of the product discriptions with more information about them and about how to wire them up. I also got my Herpstat thermostats there, and there's a link on this page that will get you more information on them, too.

Hope all this helps!

I have two Exo-Terra vivs. They are very secure, never had a corn escape from one.

the one i am getting is PT-2613. djfreebase, do you have ones exactly like this, with the locking, front opening doors? if so, one of my concerns was when my corn is an adult, will they be strong enough to pop open the doors at the top, since there is no lock up there? or are they secure enough for an adult corn?

My Mr. Toad lives in the 12x12x18 ExoTerra. The top lid has four latches. It seems very secure.

I have two small exo-terra and a large one. One word of warning if you got a baby. They have accesory holes in the back that are meant to be able to run a probe or wires for a waterfall, or the like behind the fake background. MAKE SURE THESE HOLES ARE CLOSED IF YOU ARE NOT USING THEM!! I had a baby milksnake that managed to squeeze behind the fake rock, somehow squishing himself against the glass and the back of the wall climb up and escape out of one of those holes. He did it all within an hour and has never been found again. I had seen my rough scale sand boa do this before I got the milk, but he never went out one of those holes. I wouldn't have thought the milk could have gotten out that way, but there were no other ways it could have.

Other than that I love 'em. They make nice cages with the little front doors. Good luck!

I forgot to add that there are little slides where you can close them off. I didn't discover that until after I had the escape!

I use an Exo 18x18x18 with the backing out and the sliders closed. I love the ease of the opening front doors. They look nice too! lol

yeah. i dont have the backing at all. gives a bit more room. and i made sure that those sliders were closed since i got it. a guy at the pet shop ( a real mom and pop kinda place) tells me that the zoo med ones are better. i kinda agree. the bar at the top on the zoo med ones are actually metal and not plastic and the only other difference is that instead of the 2 swinging doors there is only one.
