sports so good and so bad

tsst

Deuce is watching!
Can it get any worse while still being good for Ohio sports? I know, I know many states would love this kind of success but for us in Ohio we are wanting champs not runner-ups.

- Buckeyes lose national champ in ncaa football
- Buckeyes lose national champ in ncaa basketball
- Indians have Red Sux on the ropes and let them come back and win alcs
- Cavs lose nba finals
- Browns come so close to making playoffs and fall just short
- now Buckeyes start strong then fall apart and fall behind by 14 in this years national champ game. Not sure I can watch the rest.... arrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!

LOL

I mean, awww that's terrible luck.

I got home and OSU was up 10-0, been all LSU since then. Good luck in the second half.

Ohio State should hereunto be banned from participating in all future National Title games until they can prove they don't suck.

EVERYONE thought OSU would run away with this one right... right???

BIG 10 is not strong right now.

LSU were big favorites... every other lead conference team was just hoping to get to play OSU for the title.

They are actually doing better than I thought they would but I knew they would be down at half.

I grew up in Louisiana and am a big fan of LSU. While LSU is sitting pretty, even having just given up that 4th down touchdown, I am fully aware of LSU's ability to lay a huge bomb (similar to what Butter just gave me... I had to scoop it up and weigh it... 11 grams!). An LSU victory is not assured until they sign off on the telecast.

The Big 10 is terrible. That is another conference that should not be allowed to participate for football national titles.

OSU is getting completely dominated, and USC absolutely spanked Illinois.

I absolutely agree.

This is another example of why we need a college football playoff.

On a personal note:

I am glad to see LSU win the national championship since UK is one of 2 teams to beat them this year.

Okay... 90 seconds and 21 points up. Even I'm fairly comfortable.

The Big 10 isn't a bad conference, but they've got two big problems. First, they don't have a (okay, now LSU is only up 15... see what I mean?) conference championship. Second, they play far too many cupcakes as non-conference games (er... App Sate... okay, some cupcakes fight back) so that they don't really get real competition, so they get complacent. Add a couple more decent schools and have some real competition like the SEC does. Granted, nowadays, every school gets TV time so the 'nice weather or nice locations' schools have an advantage over former powerhouses like Nebraska.

Game's over... going to bed.

I disagree. Don't forget they were just on the otherside of the coin in 2002/2003 when they beat a great Miami team. They have played in 3 of the BCS title games and are 1-2. They also nearly beat the Texas team that won in 2005. OSU has talent. Look at the NFL draft it's peppered with OSU players yearly. I doubt all those NFL scouts are that wrong on judging talent. I do think that the Big 10 should not have 8 teams in bowl games, more like the top 3 or 4.

I think their problem was they were out coached. Same as last year. SEC has younger more inovative coaches willing to do whatever it takes including totally changing the game plan. Big 10 has the players to play with other conferences but they don't have the coaching. Too old school set in their ways. Actually this is what worries me most about Michigan next year. They went out and got one of those young inovative coaches from WV (who by the way beat up on Okla)

The first series goes great on offense and defense. Then LSU makes adjustments and OSU never did. It was obvious that LSU figured out what to change and it worked. The difference from 2002 and last two years was that Miami had no better in-game coaching than OSU did, but Florida and LSU both made the in-game changes they needed to make to win. I read an article about last years game that had comments from OSU players saying that Florida defense was calling out the plays OSU was running before ball was snapped. That is poor coaching not to adjust to that.

Disagree. The Big 10 is bad. You see what normally happens when they get paired up with a team from the South. They tend to lose---and in a big way. The recruiting strategies of Big 10 teams differs greatly from Southern teams. Speed kills--and the Big 10 as a whole lacks the amount of speed at skill positions that they need to compete regularly.

The Big 10 from top to bottom just isn't a good conference.

Who in this lineup would you be scared to play?

Michigan
Ohio State
Penn State
Wisconsin
Iowa
Indiana
Purdue
Minnesota
Northwestern
Michigan State
Illinois

The only two teams in that conference who have been good in the past decade are Michigan and Ohio State. A handful of the other school have had some good years, but are not consistently good.

Perennial cellar dwellers like Indiana, Northwestern, Minnesota---and then teams that have a good year in 5---Purdue, Illinois and Iowa.

Then you're left with a handful of teams that are decent: Penn State, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

Top to bottom the conference isn't good.

First of all, they did not 'beat' Miami. That game was a Miami win until a bullcrap phantom PI call gave OSU another chance. That was quite possibly the worst call I've ever seen in any football game.

Talent doesn't make you good. It's a combo of talent, development and coaching.

OSU obviously is lacking on the coaching end, but IMO it's also talent. It was pretty obvious watching the game last night that LSU had much better skills players than OSU did. LSU was able to sit in man defense all night and tee off on OSU's QB----OSU was not able to keep up with LSU's receivers all night. You don't toss 4 TD passes if the opposing team's CB's are playing decent man to man.

I don't think you can cry 'the SEC has younger and more innovative coaches than the Big 10'. Les Miles is 54---Tressel is 55. Spurrier cannot be considered young, nor can Phil Fulmer. Mark Richt---possibly. I'll give you Urban Meyer. I'd be willing to say the SEC has maybe a few 'young and innovative' coaches.

If you think Rich Rod is going to come into Michigan and do wonders right away, no way. He needs time to get his players into that system---and that means recruiting more speed at skill positions. I'm sure you'll see Michigan pull in a dual-threat QB next year as well---someone in the Pat White mold.

As far as in game adjustments---who cares if the defense knows the play? It's all about execution. Perfect execution beats perfect defense everytime. If I'm on the one I should be able to tell you "fullback dive" and you shouldn't be able to stop it. Gaining 88 total yards in a BCS Title game is embarassing, and it has nothing to do with the other team knowing what you're going to run. It has everything to do with being 100% outplayed and outskilled.
