What watt bulb do you use, what kind of lamp, and what is the ambient room temperature? (and if the tank is other than a 20L, what size is it?)

When people ask what watt bulb to use, I never know a good answer, as it seems required wattage varies very widely. So maybe if a lot of people answer, it will give a sort of guideline on what bulb is needed.

For example, my ambient room temp is 78, and I use a 15w bulb in an 8" dome reflector lamp to bring the hot side up to the high 80s.

I 'm a little spoiled--No I take that back!! I worked hard to build my dedicated herps room and I'm quite proud of it! The light thing I have reserved for my Bearded Dragons, all my snakes are maintained in a temp controlled herps room. I would have to say the lights are not a good choice for colubrids, I tried them at first, but they seemed to dry out the air too much, even if the proper temp is maintained.

PM, Did you make it to FIRE? I had a friend of mine who works with Ben Siegel stop by my house on the way up to Orlando. He called me a little whle ago and said that there wasn't much in the way of Corns available. Your pretty close I can't think of to many excuses for not attending. Heck for you It's like a trip to the local pet store.
 
I use a 75 watt heat lamp to maintain the proper air temp. Since I dont have a herp room and I keep a few snakes that require different temps I keep my room at 70 and heat each tank with different wattage light bulbs and heat lamps.
 
Yeah, I made it to FIRE (the expo center is 15 miles away :)). There wasn't a whole lot of corns. I mean, Rich and Kathy were there, but there wasn't a whole lot available. Gotta be the time of year - the snakes are still eggs! There were a ton of baby ball pythons, though. I got one myself, but spent a little extra for one that's supposed to be feeding on f/t mice.

I haven't had any humidity problems using lamps, but I can imagine it being bad for someone who has dry air to begin with.
 
tank size - 36" x 12" x 15"high
7 watt undertank heat pad
40 watt blue lamp.
ambient room temp varies from 60-70
Hot end of tank varies from 80-90
Humidty can be a problem but i combat it by having a second water bowl in the hot end of the tank - more evapouration :)
