No offense, and I realize this poll might just be out of curiosity... but when is this ridiculous obsession that average consumers have over which computer type is better (and the obsession to bicker about it) going to end? Why don't people start arguing over whether Walmart or Target is better? Or whether name brand toilet paper gives you better coverage than generic. In my opinion, that's more important and relevant to my daily life than what kind of computer I use to check my email. They all cost a lot of money. They're all made up of wires and chips. Macs may be better suited to some applications and PCs to others. Regardless of how long anyone wants to argue about it, on average, they both work equally well for the needs of an average person like myself.

For the record, I have a PC. Actually I have two. Never ever gonna buy a Mac. Won't even buy an iPod.

I use linux and windows... but windows more than linux (Linux for work, windows for play! ;))

The poll masters are just ripping the pish now... I am simply not amused. Can we turn off the freakin polls?!!!

I'm an artist. There's no comparison. I use a Macbook Pro and love it to no end. I've never had a computer that could handle what i put it through (Photoshop, Illustrator, and Painter being up and running all at once) until this one. I had Top of the Line PCs until I finally fled as Vista was taking over.
I'm never going back to PCs.

I would go linux, but there are really no good tablet drivers for it, and i'd just die without my pressure and tilt sensitivity. Or my art would suck. One or the other. ;)

I had a mac before, have PC now. I miss that mac. It was the original Bondi Blue imac (before they even came in flavors) and it served me well for years and years. It still works but I just really needed a new machine. And macs were a lot of money so I ended up with a PC, did I mention I miss my mac? I voted mac on the poll lol.

I have a pc and will mostly likely always own a pc. I am used to them and they do what I need them to do. Who really cares anyways?

Yeah, I've never understood the people who try to create some basis of standing out of the format of their computer. In my experience, the people loudest about how one is better, doesn't matter which, are also the least qualified to be making that distinction.

I use a PC for gaming and work. I've yet to work with an Apple server and since the software I write is either for handheld computers (Such as PocketPC and industrial PDAs) or servers PC is pretty much all I need.

Wow, for once in my life i agree with Tula! I can't beleive it,
But lets ditch theese polls, people are being _______ ( can't say any words... a 3 year old might be offended)

It just seemed fun, cos of the eternal war between mac and pc.
Mac-users go "aaaargh.. pc" and Pc-users "aaaargh.. mac"
I know some people don't mind a pc or a mac, but then again some do.
Just was interested in knowing does pc outnumber mac (or visa versa)
:shrugs:

But if this starts even the smallest bickering, then by all means delete it.
Don't wanna start evil-discussion-threads.

PCs (Windows) are for gamers. Macs are for designers.

It's very hard to compare two different operating systems when they were built with two very different things in mind. I'm with Delightedly when explaining why I have and use a Mac. A PC can't run my top three programmers (Photoshop/Illustrator/Dreamweaver) all at the same time without running like a snail.

If I wanted a machine for games and standard word processing, I'd get a PC because they're cheap. My profession obviously makes the need for a Mac (with the higher price tag).

I agree with blackkat.
At work I need Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign, it tends to work faster on a Mac. Don't have experience with games on a computer.

I actually beg to differ. I'm a very artistic person, and frequently have numerous windows open. My choice programs are Session MusicMaker, Adobe Photoshop CS2, and various Movie Maker programs, all of which are enormous. I run these along with iTunes, AOL, Word, WinDVD, etc without a problem. And, this is on a $700 laptop with very low RAM and an 86% full hard drive. I have what should be the slowest computer in the world running a ton of RAM consuming programs without a problem. Also, depending of course on what game your playing, many games take up way more RAM than any imaging, movie, or music software, so any computer than can run well while gaming should be able to run fine with artistic software.

I will agree with you in terms of what comes pre-installed, though. Macs generally have much more useful artistic programs pre-installed. All of mine has to be installed, which means $100 for Session, a whopping $600 for CS2, etc, etc. On the other hand, PCs come with many games and document programs. They also tend to run on a much more personalized, but way complicated system (like the American Government :duck:).

depends on what you need it for

Im a graphic designer so I support mac all the way.
I have a nice G5 at work, and a 20 inch imac at home.

For me mac is just a better all round machine.
If I had to do the things I do on a pc there would be smoke coming out the cpu in no time.lol

That being said - For every day office use - word, excel and things a pc is more than capable of doing the work - for everything else they just annoy me by being to slow, ugly, and having a stupid operating system with more viruses than the local.......... umm......... call girl.

I love my macs to much - I even turned down a higher paying job once cause I'd have to work on a pc. Now I just need the 30 inch screen and my life is complete :D:dancer:

Here's where I see the comparison...

I paid $1200 for a spanking new PC about two years ago...Couldn't run my design software (not freeware, real design software) as I needed it too. I'm constantly going back and forth between Photoshop/Illustrator/Dreamweaver and here and there with Flash & InDesign as well...I would have to CLOSE a program and REOPEN another program just so that I could get it to run at a decent pace.

I finally got frustrated and bought a seven year old iBook with LESS ram and processor then the PC and it runs like a dream compared to the PC I bought. The PC I've sold to my mother and it works wonderfully for her and my siblings needs (documents, internet, photo storage, games, etc).

I know I took a gamble with the PC and I was aware of the fact that it would not run my software as well as a Mac like I need it to...I just didn't realize how badly...I took a $400 loss on that PC which stinks but I've learned my lesson and will stick with Mac for my profession.

As far as pre-installed "artistic" software...They don't come with anything pre-installed used in the professional world...You still have to buy the Adobe suites.
