Now *this* is an expensive snake!

Yeah, and Bob Clark is the last man on earth who needed $35,000 for a retic.

Why oh why did the zoo BUY a freakin retic?! Theres THOUSANDS of huge retics out there needing rescued and permanent homes. This is ludicrous...

Sweety, it's because it's billed as the largest snake in captivity that's why.
And it's pretty expensive for a zoo considering they don't normally buy the animals at all.

Possibly for the same reason you collect high end morphs and not rescues.

I checked out the photo. Pretty snake but I can name a bunch of other snakes I would rather get for that kind of money.

True, but your an enthusiast. This was bought as an attraction, and I would pay to see it in real life...If it was nearer...LOL

From what I read, they had the snake on loan. She was billed as the largest snake in captivity and revenues went up, and not by a little. So even though they rarely buy animals, they justified the cost of buying Fluffy because she brings so many people to the zoo.
Between the added admissions, gift shop sales, and food sales Fluffy may end up paying for herself in less than a year.

Besides...the last Narbc show I was at in Chantilly, there was an albino ETP *or was it an albino ATP? hmmm can't remember* anyway it was priced at 100,000 bucks!

I get the zoo's position, but I wish they would've gone with a rescue python. :shrugs: Too late now, I guess. I do like the name "fluffy" though.

Talk about expensive snakes... I just made the mistake of consolidating all of Butter's Vet bills.... Yikes!

Remember, kids, it's not the purchase price that gets ya...

Why oh why did you do that? And did you add in Vern yet??

A moment of fudiciary weakness. It won't happen again.

Vern, no... I didn't look. Trying hard to not worry about her. Stopping to get another 3-times-as-expensive-as-silver day old pink for her this evening and trying again. Since her final medication, I've completely left her alone hoping to give her some peace. Been dusting her water with nutra-bac to see if that helps jump start her appetite.

Personally, I think the Zoo purchasing Fluffy was an excellent move. It raises general animal awareness, brings most likely highly needed funds into the zoo for the betterment of all their animals and helps reptile education.

While rescuing giant boids is excellent, a rescue won't be "the largest snake in captivity", has unknown medical histories which could end in costly medical expenses for the zoo (unlike Fluffy who was bred and raised by Clark) and are not honestly something "special" like Fluffy is. =)

The albino GTP has came down alot price wise, i think there $50.000 now!!!!!!!!!
And the zoo bought this snake because if it brang in 1.7 million people at 5 dollars entrance fee(dunno what it is just a guess) they have made a killing!!!!!!
