Motley due to lay any day now..

Ok, well, Hecate has finally settled into her laying chamber with the moss. After 3 days of wandering the cage, in a desperate state trying to get out, I think she has resigned herself to the fact that she is expecting.

On her last palpation, I counted at least 12 eggs. =D

Anyway, I have a question concerning her recent behaviour. When she is laying in her laying chamber all curled up, she always has her tail sticking out of the hole in the lid. It's from the vent to the tip.

Has anyone else's done this, and does it mean anything? =P

This isn't a one time thing, but each time she is in the container..always has the tail hanging out. I dunno if that's a comfortable position for her, or if she's just too lazy to pull that last little bit in, or if it's some quirk that they do (like I've seen ball pythons lay over belly-up right before laying).

Anyway...most of this message is to keep me occupied so I'm not up there with my face pressed against her container every 5 mins to see if she laid yet. =B

i cant tell you if mean s anythign but i have one female who always does just what your girl does - i think its just for comfort or maybe it assists when the eggs are being laid ?

She's Laying Right Now

I read through all of the old posts on here, and came across one from Rich Z. saying that the females want their containers packed with laying medium. Since mine wasn't anywhere near packed, I stuffed it full of moss and placed it back in her cage.

Almost IMMEDIATELY she crawled inside and rooted around and I didn't see her for the rest of the day yesterday.

I just checked on her this morning and she's already laid 6 eggs! Worked like a charm. The past week she's been searching for that perfect laying spot, and once I provided it to her, she laid on cue.

Thanks Rich for the suggestion! =D
