Still no shed...

So I got my little okeetee, Monty, back on 12-12 from Kathy Love. She said at the time he had shed about a week before. Since then, he has never shed, nor gone into blue with me. He is 8mos old. He did have one regurge a while back so I had to go through baby steps with eating for awhile (10 day wait, pinky head, 10 days, pinky head, 7 days half pinky, 7 days half pinky...and finally last feeding was a whole pinky)....He only weighs 9g. Could it be he has not shed because he has not really grown with these small meals?
Just curious...7-8 weeks sounds like a long time for a hatchling not to shed...but he is my 1st snake. Thanks

If I look at the days between shed of my snakes,
they got an average of 30 days.
10 day wait, pinky head, 10 days, pinky head, 7 days half pinky, 7 days half pinky
Sorry to hear about your need to take baby-steps, but..
Damn, if I read this, I can't say how happy I am my snakes eat good.
Only one snake refused to eat one time when he was blue.
I hope your snake starts/keeps eating well.

I wouldn't be too worried about the shedding, because he's had a little set-back in his growth. As you work towards a more normal feeding program he should start to grow and shed on a normal cycle.

The growth rate when they are small isn't all that great. Once you get them on Large Fuzzies and especially Hoppers, that's when they seem to take off weight wise.
Given the regurge you had, that will certainly slow things down a bit.
Just keep doing what you're doing and if you have any concerns touch base with Kathy...she's a gem!!!

Steve

Thanks guys! Monty actually eats like a champ every time I offer something to him, but I have only been offering him those small meals per Kathy's regurg instructions. Hopefully he keeps his full pinky down (fed Sat.) and can start a normal eating program. I guess I just thought it was odd he has never shed, but it makes since what you said about his growth rate slowing with the regurg issue. Thanks again...

I have also found that some of my babies will cut down feeding and growth during the winter, then just go crazy in the spring, especially if there are windows in the room and they can see the days getting longer. As long as they are feeding and not regurging, they will grow and shed as they are ready.
Some of the babies that are available now are babies that got off to a slow start in the beginning, and are still on the small side. But if they have been feeding well in the fall, they will generally do fine and catch up by the time they are adults. Just be sure to put cuts into the pinks (if they are dead, of course!) to speed full digestion.
If you continue to have any problems, be sure to let me know right away.

Thanks Kathy! I think Monty is doing fine....he only had the one regurge a while ago and has done fine on all his feedings since. We love him to pieces so I hope he continues to grow....he is just still so little. I'll let you know how he progresses.
