i was warned...

...that if i got one snake, i would want MORE!

well, a friend of mine was going to give me a 20 gallon aquarium, and a filter and heater and etc etc. however. the more and more i think about it, the less and less i want to get into fish.

so begins the snake multiplication... so with this 20 gallon i'm going to acquire... i think i am going to get this snake! (some may remember him from my picture-spam!)

he's a WONDERFUL eater, never refuses ANYTHING and has never regurged (i know because he's pretty much been in my care at the pet store since the day he arrived). his last shed was perfect, and his temperament is good. he's quick and a little bit feisty, but never aggressive, and he usually calms down after a few minutes of handling. i have confirmed myself that he is a male.

pretty excited!

i think boss lady paid $70 for him, but could have been WAY less, who knows. so the most i'll be paying for him is $70, and around $30 for the lid i want, and then just a water dish and substrate.

and for the time being, i'll be using a heat lamp with infrared bulb, since Milly's UTH nor thermostat have arrived yet.

HOW did i get into this!?

on second thought. i think i will take get the snow that i <3 so much! it (not sure of the gender, as it came into our care after it was too late to "pop") is also a fantastic feeder, and since it's bigger it's been in the store longer, it needs a new home!

on third thought, maybe i'll just ask my boss to sell me the whole setup that the snow is in,

and keep the 20 gallon my friend is giving me for future uses... if you know what i mean!

How exciting! Congrats! I sure wish I was in a similar situation, I'd REALLY like to get a second snake but not only is money a problem to buy another snake plus the whole setup, but the bigger problem is that I have no place to put another snake. It wouldn't be so difficult if I didn't have a toddler (and a second child on the way) cause then I could put it almost anywhere in my house but with a toddler, I have to keep the snake in a secure area high enough to be out of reach.

i love this addiction!

i need opinions though... should i get the younger, more fiesty amel? or the older, bigger, calmer snow? (PS, is a snow amelanistic AND anerythristic?)

i can't decide if i want the absolutely brilliantly colored amel, or if i want to have a variety for now, by having a bigger snake, AND a snow? i already have an RO.

OH THE CHOICE IS SO HARD

It all depends on snake. Get which one calls to you more. I love the amel, but I would get the snow simply because its a new color mix for you, and "he" is a new size variety as well. And yes, the snow is Amelanistic and anerythristic. (so cool!)

All in all, I would expand your collection to a snow and the RO. (Yep. it rhymes.) lol

i am in love with the snow, but in love with the amels colors... however, my little snake Millicent will be bright and beautiful once she gets a bit bigger.

i am definitely more leaning towards the snow

I'm more partial to the snow, that and even knowing how much I've liked the other snake I would find it hard to pay $70 for an amel.

How would I tell the gender of a snake?
This isnt very revelent to the topic but here is something relevent to it

Doesnt that first snake have another bulge in it on the 13-14th stripe?

I would definely not pay 70 for a new baby snake. not sure how much the snow is, but for my first snake i got from a pet store and payed i think 40 for which i now realize was a lot! lol. my two new snakes i got both of them for 25.. what a deal, i was so excited! i think leaning towards the snow might be a good idea. already bigger. so thats good.

UGH so burgham backordered my UTH for milly's 50gal, AGAIN (and my herpstat has not arrived yet), so looks like i'm still stuck with the heat lamp. which actually seems to be doing fine for now, my digital exo terra thermometer reads 86 on the warm side and 77 on the cool side.

and it looks like instead of using the 20gal i got from my friend, i am going to buy a 30gal long, (36x12x18) and get the snow corn. i KNOW i was gonna use the 20gal, but it's a little bit grungy. so i got it in my head that i'm getting the snow corn, so I AM! friday it is! to buy the tank + lid (which has TWO doors, which is AWESOME!) and water dish and a thing of reptibark (store's out of aspen, and it keeps getting BACKORDERED dammit!) and a plant and a UTH (which i can't use until my herpstat comes in) and the snake, it's gonna cost me around $175. EXCITED!! and i'll feed the snow, and milly 3 days apart, so there will ALWAYS be a snake to handle :D:D

hoorah!

okay so, i brought my snow baby home today!

february4047edit.jpg

excuse the double-chin like pose...but i like how the snake is all curled up in my hair, flicking it's tongue about!

february7009edit.jpg

here's a shot of his 33gal viv

february7011edit.jpg

and here my new snakey is, pokin' his head out of the reptibark, checkin' things out!

i know the heatlamps are not ideal, but like i said, for now i'm waiting on my UTH's and thermostat. and actually the heatlamps seem to be doing well for both my viv's right now. the new snake's temps are sitting at 74 on the cool side, and 84.7 on the warm side. and that is on the substrate, with an exo terra digital thermometer with probe.

so, he weighed in at 94 grams today!

so, HOORAY! new snake!
