can you divide an aquarium?

I know you shouldn't house 2 snakes together, but is there a way to separate a very large aquarium into two different spaces?

We have the chance to get a 60 L used tank (unsure of measurements yet) and I was thinking maybe we could add a wall somehow in the middle to divide this into 2 viv's?

Would the snakes sense each other and be stressed by this?
 
i dont know if it will stress them out but yes you can divide it, all you need is a piece of plexiglass or acrylic and some pure silicon. just make sure you let it dry and air out really well before you put the snakes in it.
 
I was going to suggest the same thing. Just have your heat in the middle so you can use one heat pad. Make sure that the snakes can get under or over your partition.

Also you can use aquarium backer or some thing else on one side of the plexiglass to block the view.

Would love to see pics of how you did it when you are finished.
 
It won't stress the snakes out, once you've got the divide sorted out, It'll be exactly the same as keeping two snakes in two seperate enclosures. The fact there very close together won't cause any problems :)
 
Not a problem; I've done this before. You just do as cartoonnetwork suggested. It didn't seem to make any difference to my two snakes. I suppose you could attach some dark paper to the partition if you don't want them to see each other.

agreed, i dnt see a big problem with it, jus makesure the air is clear and smell has gone before allowing the snakes in. maybe even only needing on heat mat aswell, putting it in the middle, where the wall would be. and glass would be just as good as plexiglass etc... but i suppose a little more awkward.

i had a similar thought myself... maybe a good way to introduce a male and female, before putting them in together for breeding? any thoughts anybody?

I don't see a problem with it either. you probably aren't limited to glass either. I'm anything that is pet safe and can be secured safely in the middle would work assuming it prevented them from gettin back and forth between the 2 sides. I think a naturally decorated divider would be interesting as well almost as if there were two aquariums back to back.

If you go through with it, I would like to see pics of your decision if possible.
 
Hope this helps some, it is a work in progress. This is a 55 gal tank, it has a piece of galss in the middle (across the top). We adhered the acrylic to that (really bad pic) to prevent snakes from going over. I wanted acrylic for the lids also, we had the piece we used inside. A 4'x8' new piece $80.00 so the lid is peg board. We also realize there is a lot of wasted space in the top 2/3 so we may fashion shelves. We use a large heating pad in the middle, temps are holding great.

thank you all so much for the advice and especially for the pics! fiance might be getting a ball python now (still undecided). if he goes that route, we won't be dividing the tank, although I'm hoping to talk him outta the BP so i can have my 2 corns.

either way, i'll definitely take pics when we're finished (which probably won't be for awhile). i'm really looking forward to this project!
 
Or if you are broke (like me), I just cut a piece of cardboard. You can even make it so it goes over the lip of the aquarium so they can't cross over that way. I just cut it, and attached it with silicone. And it's dark so they can't see each other.

Here is a picture of when I had a 20L modified that way. I have since moved everyone to a rack so I don't have up close pictures. I also currently have a 30L set up this way, even though it is not being used.
