Modern myths or urban legends

The Devils Advocate
I've heard a story on three different occasions recently....One of them was on a national radio station (BBC Radio 1)
It concerns a girl who stays a her new boyfriends house for the first time. She wakes up in the night to find his python along side her......She puts it back in it's viv, and goes back to bed....
In the morning she tells her boyfriend what had happened during the night.....
Ashen faced he tells her the snake was measuring her as it was going to eat her.......
I remember hearing that story years ago, and picking it apart, as none of it sounds true in the slightest.....
So what other myths have any of you heard.....I did hear once that a certain snake can hold it's tail and roll down hills like a wheel, when it was hunting....I was going to breed them, but I couldn't build a big enough viv on a slant....LOL

I've heard the "hoop snake" thing. There are lots of older myths about snakes. Milksnakes were thought to drink from cow udders. :uhoh: If you laid a horsehair rope around the perimeter of your campsite, snakes wouldn't enter. :nope: If you cut off a snake's head, it will survive until sundown. :shrugs: I'm sure there are many more just a google away. :)

That wasn't a myth, it was true (to my knowledge) but the facts are slightly different.

It was a husband and wife, and they had a burmese python. It was tame and used to sleep curled up on the bottom of the bed. The one weekend the husband was away on a business meeting and the snake started lying length ways instead of curled. The woman took it to the vets and he said it was measuring her up for his next meal.

I've been told the same story from 3 different people "Ohh i had a friend who had a python... she used to sleep with it on the bed then one night she woke up and it was spread out lengthways next to her, she took it to the vets and he said it was going to eat her!"

Now unless this "friend" is friends with my sister, a 50-odd year old co-worker and some random bloke i met at a bar (Which i very much doubt) its just rubbish people like to spout to sound like they're experienced.

I know somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who knows somebody who's girlfriend (who was on THAT time of the month) stayed the night at his house and his ball python escaped and strangled her to death before realizing that she was too big for him to digest. Riiiight....

Next weeks news story: WOMAN RETURNS FROM CONGO, FINDS SPIDER NEST EMBEDDED IN EAR!

The Hoop Snake is USUALLY the local racer. My favoritemyth, though, is the tell where a rattlesnake bites a farmers shovel and the handle expands so much that the farmer cuts it up into enough firewood for the whole winter!
