hi all,,, im praying someone got answer for this..
i have a kenyan sand boa, im new with snakes so i dont know anything about them... i got 2 months ago,,, it didnt eat since then and been hiding all the time, doesnt move untill i get it out of the viv... since yesterday its doing something very wierd... theres an air bubble that it makes under its mouth ( sometimes it doesnt ) then it opens its mouth and tries to go upward then make a strange sound and gets the air out. and all its body contracts.then relax... im holding it for about half an hour now and it didnt stop... anyone knows what is this???
thx

Sounds like an upper respiratory infection. You need to get it to a vet. Urgently. What is the temp in its viv?

Pfft. That's too cold and sounds like you've got a URI as Nanci said, as a result. You need a heat mat and a thermostat to control the temperature. 80 - 85 cool side and 90 - 95 warm side. Buy one as soon as possible, bump up the temps and get it to a qualified reptile vet as soon as possible.

Why can't you do your research before getting a snake!? It's not hard, you go on to Google, type in Kenyan Sand Boa and look at a care sheet.

thx all for replying,,, dave i think u got it wrong,, 25 celcuis,,, i'll put a lamp inside and tomorrow morning i'll take it to the vet.. thx alot nancy :)

25C is 77F! That's way too cold for a KSB. Please do your research before you get any snake, this is what happens when you don't; the animals get sick and it makes YOU look bad.

No... I'm not wrong. As SR1234 said, 25 C is 77 F. I pointed out that it should be between 80 - 85 F on the cool side and 90 - 95 F on the warm side. I gave perfectly good, constructive advice. I obviously wouldn't suggest that you keep a snake at 80 - 85 degrees celcius, I'll stick to my lamb, beef, pork and chicken thanks. :grin01:

If you're going to put a lamp in there, check the temperatures, compare them to what's been written here, and adjust the height accordingly. Make sure the snake can't come in to contact with it either.

Hey is this a wild caught snake for you?? I know they are native in that part of the world.

This snake should have been fine at room temp for you in this season, if it brumated but yes, it sounds like it has Respiratory infection as Nanci has stated. If you only had this snake for 2 months, it may have come to you already ill and you did not know it. Herps tend to start showing some illness symptoms after a long period of being sick and stressed. So coming to your place could have been icing to the cake.

So has the snake lost any weight? Does it look thinner? Can you feel its Spine? You are doing the right thing with the lamp. But you may need to try and feed it smaller meals until it gets better as well. So let us know what the vet says and keep us updated.

Also welcome to Cornsnakes.com, once you get some experience under your belt you should try a Corn snake. I think you will enjoy them. Their temperaments are much nicer than the Sand Boas.

And Cornsnake1234 Hush up, you have had done your share of bad animal husbandry and you have no right to yell at any one. So do not get arrogant and start crying that I am picking on you and to drop it already. Its the truth and own up to it. tflier already called you on this before, now watch what you say.

The contracting and relaxing of the body sounds to me like its getting to be pretty serious upper resp. infection like everyone was saying any local vets that are qualified to work with herps in your area?

if i let it like this theres no way it can heal it self?? its not what i want to do, but what if the vet told me i dont deal with snakes..
