Great show today. Much bigger than the Manasas show and some nice stuff mixed in.
Corn wise there were a lot of the usual adult male amels and tons of tiny hatchlings...many of which were leaving with children and clueless parents. One nice lavendar male but...yeah I have too many males. Lots of balls and their morphs. No pieds today..but lots of others.
I went in with the goal of finding a large female normal ball for breeding...and I found a nice one. Meet Isabelle. She is 1,000 grams of cutie-pie-ness. Very sweet and nice and fat.

Sorry for the crappy pic...she went right into a hide after this.
But then the impulse bug bit me...and my partner was there and she kept saying ooooo look at the big ones! I want a big one! She was pointing to a albino burm and a lav. albino retic. "No" says I ..."too big darling". Well so I had to get Something didn't I?
Yep....
Meet Carlos

My very first boa! HORRAY! Sooo excited about this big guy. I have not weighed him yet since I think he will break my scale. That is him in a 20 long tank. Just a quarentine tank until he can move into a 75 in my snake room.
Speaking of which...how long do most people quaretine there snakes?
Anyway he was a pet that someone gave up, so the seller was unsure of type. He seems very very pinky red compared to many of the boas I have seen. Any clues anyone?
Did anyone else go? Any pickups?

I went!

I was there --- and also got a new buddy -- also a bit of an impulse buy-- but I am so thrilled with him!

He is a so-far-unnamed Brazilian Rainbow Boa who is in deep shed. So, no pics yet. Lots of folks were looking at him, but I was trying to be rational (HA!). So, I told myself that if I walked around the show and he was still there, it was meant to be! Well, when I got back, he was sitting there waiting for me. :dancer:

I expect he will shed very soon, so I'll get some pics then.

Your new snakes are very handsome, Whippet. I especially like Carlos. Who did you get him from?

This was my first trip to the show, and I liked it---except for the fact that there were no crickets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do a Quarantine that is about 6-8 months. Yep its a long time and longer is always preferred. I wouldn't get a 75 gallon tank for a snake, they are heavy and just to bulky to move. I personally do recommend an acrylic or plastic cage.
48 x 24 x 11.5 (to about 15 high). This is the same Dimensions to a 75 gallon tank minus the height. They are far lighter and can be moved by one person if need be. I keep very few snakes any more in glass cages due to humidity problems or just being to fragile.
Plus these cages are stackable and with your woma and you will get a few more snakes that will get up to 6 feet, I recommend them for this reason.

srsb - WHOA! I watched you buy that boa! I was standing over by that guys freezer buying some rats! How funny! I loved that rainbow...so nice even in shed. Very fat and healthy looking too. I bought the boa from the people when you first walked in on the same square as your rainbow. The ones with the albino lav. retics. Dominion Reptiles was the name. Dang it...we really need cornsnakes.com t-shirts!
Tula - I have a feeling you are right and thanks!
Trickster - I agree that I want those stackable units. I particularly like the ones from boaphile. However with the price of them I am going to have to save up...yikes! I actually already had an extra 75 gallon...so I will use that for now. But yeah...I am working on getting a great set of stackers. :)

WOW!!

That is so funny that you saw me buying him!

I agree, some t-shirts, or something would sure help!

I LOVED the albino lavender retics---my friends that I was there with decided that is what they wanted----but I had to tell them NO! They only just got their first snake, a corn, a few months ago!!

Nice new "babies!" Carlos is lucky to go to such a loving home after being given up. Both are gorgeous!

That boa is awesome. Congrats!

I quarantine based on how much I trust the source. Anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. :shrugs:

Thanks for the advice everyone...sounds like I need to get a bigger quarantine tank *or tub*. Great help though. And gosh..sooo photogenic!
