Question about selling hatchlings

Hey. I've just successfully bred and hatched my first clutch and as much as I would like to keep them all my mother won't hear of it so I have to sell them. I was wondering what a reasonable asking price would be both for selling them on my own and to a pet store. The pet store I go to is very particular as to who gets their animals and I know they will find great homes for my little guys. On to the important info. They are a cross between a normal motely and either an amel or sunglow motely. They are about 3 weeks old and are free of any diseases or parasites. They all also have perfect temperaments for their age. Here are a couple of photos. Not the best in the world but they'll work. Thanks for the help!

Well at shows I go to, I usually see the price range from $25-$40. Usually the more rare morphs are more expensive. So for those, since motley I'd say $30-$35.. I really dont know though.. Thats probably what I'd ask.

No matter whether the parent is amel or sunglow, they will be motleys het amel. Since sunglow is a line-bred LOOK instead of a genetic trait, they can't be het sunglow. SMR has them listed at $25.

Yup, as per your previous thread, they're Normal Motleys het Amel (the het probably won't matter to the store).

Expect to get significantly less than the store sells them for, as they will be looking to make a profit margin. e.g. if the store sells them for $25, I wouldn't expect more than $15 each for them.

If that. You can always try to trade them for store credit, if they'd go that route. You may be able get a little bit more that way...

Also, don't make claims you can't back up. Stating "they are free of disease and parasites" without being able to back that claim up with nothing but your word sets yourself up. Obviously I'm not questioning your keeping practices, and I'd bet they are exactly what you state i.e. healthy (and pretty :)) motley corn snakes, but things can happen.

Good luck and congrats on your first clutch o' corns :*)

That's true. I sell to a shop for less than 50% of their retail price, but they give me trade rates on anything I buy (including food) for the rest of the year.

As a side thought from cka's comments, you want to make sure you have a good rep so that you can sell more next year. I make sure that any I sell have taken at least three defrost feeds in a row, then I can honestly sell them as "reliable eaters". I never sell non-feeders or unreliable feeders (although you mgiht be able to do a deal where the shop takes them for less money or for free).

Where abouts in the world are you?

If not to far might be able to help you out with 1 or 2.

When I sold my last clutch they all went to one store for $10 each. They were het for stripe and from anery parents. Granted the store owner and I got along great to the point where he would give me discounts and what not all the time with me occasionally helping him out. I miss that pet store..... :( nothing to compare over here in Orlando.
