Can anyone help me? I have two books and am still struggling... I think that my red one looks like a boy.. I thought I saw femoral pores, and his "spurs" are rather large. The tan one... I am not sure of. No real development at all yet. Here are the pics.

:laugh01: Thank you for the compliments! You and I are in the same boat then... I am sitting there staring at their butts and asking my sister for her input and she was worse than useless... "You want me to look at their whats?! WHY?!"

Male cresties have very large hemipenile bulges, but it can take them until they are 6 to 8 months old (if memory serves me correctly) for the bulge, to "bulge", if you know what I mean :)

If the pics you posted are of older cresties, then I would say they are females. But if they are a bit younger than 6 months then the last pic could develope into a male :shrugs: the boy we had a few years ago was "very" well endowed, and it showed ;)

Looks like you've got a Brindle and a Harlequin there (my memory could be a little off though) Good lookers too! :)

Hope that helps a bit, best wishes,

How old are they? From the pics, I'd say they are both female.

On mature males, the bulges under the tail are very obvious - they can be seen when looking at the animal from the side. Females have no bump at all or sometimes a very small bump.

 with all the mating snake photos going around right now.. for some reason I expected this thread to be crestie porn.

I agree with the above comments. When they are male you can really tell. You dont have to look for the "bulges" they just about jump out at you :bang:

I guess the more important question is... if I have either two females or a male and a female, do I need to worry about them fighting? Or will they be okay? I know two males will fight, but the blonde colored one shows no signs at all of a hemipenal bulge, so I am assuming she, at least, is a female.

Females will usually get along without any issues. Males and females can live together, but obviously breeding wil probably occur - also, it is recommended to seperate them for a couple months each year, as the poor female won't get a lot of peace from her cagemate. ;)
