"Quality Before Quantity"
Hi Everyone,
I have always been very intrigued by these guys and after months of seeing Brent's (Drizzt80) and Elle's (Tula_Montage) and listening to Brian (Nomad) about how bad he wants one I know I had to have it. Here is my new girl "Ursula". She is a Chilean Rose-Hair (Grammostola rosea). As soon as I held her at the show I knew she was mine. If you look close you can see she has a mohawk right between her eyes. I thought I did very well in restraining myself at the show and she was my only purchase, unlike someone else I know.........ahem.....PJ. Thanks for looking and I hope you like.
Jay

Nice! If I were ever to get a tarantula, I'd definately start with a Chilean Rose-Hair. Oh and I'm loving the mohawk, very cool

All the best

David

"she" is gorgeous! I'm so glad you got a T. However I am included to think thats a male... why you ask? The legs are long and slender with the overall appearance being less robust than I would expect from a female rosea. Then again I see no claws or enlarged palps so perhaps it is female or just not a mature male.

Jay I think this is a male. Did you get this from the bald dude with the eyebrow ring and black eyebrows? I think Cold Blooded Pets or something they were. (they were in black tee shirts and were vending all sorts of arachnids. I think I was looking at this one and a (very nice) girl told me to just put the cup down cause she knew it was a male. She looked at all the roseas for me and picked out the one that she believed was female, and the owner of the table also said he thought it was female (even though I'm sure he would have said that if the spider had 39840 ft long legs and giant hooks on its feet lol) I ended up getting.

What Elle said I agree with. The long thin legs, the smaller more oval shaped rump scream male to me to be honest.

In person is the carapace a nice golden color? If so its probably then one I was looking at and some girl told me to put down haha.

Beautiful Tarantula and a nice choice for a first. I'm actually gonna agree that it's probably a male....or " she " just needs some food and TLC. Sweet pick up! everyone should have a Tarantula....or 20...

HI Everyone,
Thanks for the kind words and I am glad you like her. I say her because of the lack of any hooks whatsoever. She does have seemingly long legs but I think that is attributed to the look of her smaller rump. She doesn't have as much hair on her legs that I would contribute as being male as well. She also is duller in appearance, less "pink" look, then the ones on the table that I knew for sure were male. But then again, she is my first and it may very well be male. I have the basic husbandry down but as you know there is much more research and information that needs to be gathered by me. I am inclined to take your advise as you know them better then I. I will plump him/her up for the next few weeks and see what happens. You guys do know I will be bugging you like crazy for any information about him/her. ;) Again, thanks for the kind words, I am glad you like her.

Brian,
I did not get her from Cold Blooded Pets. I got her from the big guy right at the fron table as soon as you walk in. I can't remember his name. All I know, even if it is male and doesn't live very long, is that I am very happy with her/him. The way I look at it is I couldn't go wrong for $10.00. :shrugs:

Oh, you guys know PJ so well don't you? ;)

oh man its gorgeous i wish i had the cahonas to get one i just watched arachnophobia, kinda put me off spiders for at least a little while...

wow $10? Nice deal even if it is a male! I paid $20 for my girl, I couldn't pass her up. Shes about 4.5in. and a nice color and I didn't purchase anything! lol

I wish my girl were a little more um 'social' people still tend to scare her. I named her peek-a-boo for now because whenever a person is around she hunches up her front legs and hides her eyes ha ha! I cant wait to see how she feeds, probably will take 2388 photos of that!

I hope you are right and its a female! I'm happy you got a t!! I know you love em. I love the greenish gold undertone yours has to it!!

Hi Everyone,
I haven't done an update on "Ursula" for quite some time so I figured I would get some new pictures to share. She has grown quite a bit and has molted once since I have had her. I was taking a good look at her during the photo session and it looks like her joints are "milking up" so she may be due to molt pretty soon. She has grown very nicely and really taking on a nice rose color. I also like the way she is getting stripes down her legs. This girl is super docile and has not even once shown a threatening posture nor ever thrown any hairs. I really like my eight legged girl. She just fascinates me. My daughter Ashley has a couple of her own. I will get her to post some new pictures of her Red-Legged. Well, here is "Ursula". Thanks for looking and I hope you like.
