corn breeder
As a hobbiest breeder,I have noticed the importance of the care of my animals. The last year I switched from using aspen to paper towels,in doing this of course I was able to monitor how each snake was doing a little closer.I usually order all my pinkys from TMF ,but for the bigger snakes I am breeding rats for rat pups and buying adult mice. Well I have a few different places I can get mice from and have also bought mice from TMF,but time I pay shipping charges on them it adds up to too much. Well with about four different places I was able to get mice from I tried all of them and really noticed a difference between them. Being all my snakes have been in the same conditions for years as far as heat and humidity. The only thing that could be affecting the way they digest there meals is the quality of the mice I been feeding them. Now I dont know why some are much better then others but they are.I can tell this by how well the meal I feed is digested. I now have a guy that I get them from that they do great on. Every meal they eat is totally digested . Which makes the snakes grow better and seem to do better overall.
The tap water we have here is pretty bad and never have used it for my snakes I use bottled water. Now believe it or not it seems some of the bottled water is better for them then others. So I use the better bottled water.
Being I keep my animals on/in a snake rack in tubs,I exercise the ones that I plan to breed, especially the females. This seems to build there muscle tone more . Each female gets exercised for 20 minutes twice a week. I have done this in the past and didnt have any problems with the females getting eggbound.
I would like to hear from some of the other small breeders on how they keep there animals healthy and happy !
