I bought a Ruger 10/22 (.22 calibre auto-loader) about a month ago and have been waiting for some after-market parts to arrive.

This is a stock Ruger 10/22:

I bought a Butler Creek match barrel, Revival Revolution Yukon Extreme stock, Bushnell 4X Fixed Rimfire scope and a Harris bipod. How awesome is it? SO awesome!

I can't wait to take it to the range to try it out!

Well, you got rid of that synthetic crap for a stock which is cool, but your wooden stock has a bunch of holes in it! :sidestep:

Haha. With the thumbhole for the pistol grip it is so very comfortable. Also, the cheekrest makes it even more so. I decided to go with this stock because I knew I had to save weight somewhere, so having the middle bulk of the stock removed is a good thing.

Because of that barrel it's at least twice as heavy as it was before.

I probably shouldn't say this on a site full of animal lovers...but that would make a nice little coyote gun. My family (dad and 2 little brothers) is really into archery but they have started to transition back to rifles recently. I'll have to post some pics of the collection...

I dunno if I'd use a .22LR on a coyote. I'd rather have something bigger (Like a .22-250 or a .243) for that. My uncle owns a farm where I shoot - he has endless problems with gophers so my friends and I hunt them now and then.

Drizzt, the weight and bipod thing? Yeah, definitely. :p But I'll be using that rifle for gopher hunting, too, so I'm gonna be looking for a good sling.

I wish I could find parts that easily! I play airsoft competitively and let me tell you having a high end rifle is great but finding parts is a pain.

for those interested in what airsoft is check out floridaairsoft.com and no it's not like paintball!

Oh the flood of memories!! That's how I first learned to shoot! Grandpa had a dairy farm and the pasture was full of 'em.

Well, the 10/22 is the most popular .22 in North America and has a massive after-market. My problem is that I live in Canada. There are very few parts I can order from the US without having a special import license. I had to find local dealers for the barrel.

I plan on changing out some of the trigger and hammer parts as well to give it a lighter trigger pull. I can't order any of that. :( Have to stick with what's available locally.

I have NEVER got used to the thumbhole stock. I never will. I don't like that thumb hole stocks were shoved down our throat by Bush Sr. in the 80's! Well, it lost an election for him.....

Well, I take that back. Dragonov's were made with something similar to a thumb hole stock, and I worship the ground those guys are fired from. It's more of a pistol grip than a thumb hole, though.....lol. Of course, small bores are fun to shoot, but anything less than a .32 caliber is a small bore to some of us. :)

.22Mag, maybe. i wouldn't intentionally hunt coyotes with a .22LR, though. never.

Sooo, my 7mm Magnum is small (That's smaller than a 30 cal)? That gun kicks like a mule.

I would, with a gun set up like he has, and if he is able to get a trigger job done, he could shoot MOA at 100. With accuracy like that, you could drop yotes in their tracks if you are any good.

I'm interested to see what this thing does at 100 yards. For ammo I've found Winchester Super-X 37 grain jams and misfires the least in that 10/22, but it's not match grade. It had comparable groupings to the high end Remington ammo and was vastly superior to even Federal's Gold Medal rounds (Does Federal make any ammo that doesn't suck?)

I dont have anything that could shot MOA so I do not bother with the expensive .22 ammo. I usually just use the Remington cheap stuff (golden bullet) [I would not use my .22 on a coyote, but a good one, heck yeah] or I use super sub sonic stuff (primer powder only) for shooting cats and birds in town.

With the stock barrel, CCI Stingers had an amazing grouping at 50 yards, but pretty dismal at 100 (Stingers are kinda weird. 32 grain slug with a longer shell, so higher muzzle velocity, but slows very quickly). I'm not willing to spend a lot on .22 ammo, so I'll probably stick to the Winchesters for the most part, but I might occasionally try some higher end match ammo once in a while.
