A trip to the zoo...

Snakes in designer genes
I posted some details of the reptiles at Chester in another thread, and as promised here's a few more pictures from around the zoo.

I think there's eight or nine elephants, in an enclosure just as you go into the zoo.

You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours.

Gopher thing. I could watch these for hours, everywhere I go I seem to come home with new photos of them.

Mum! Mum! Mum! I'm hungry mum! Pay attention to meeeeee mum!

Aaah, that's better.

Mr Lion

Mrs Lion

Sadly the Giraffe house was closed, due to the birth of a new baby, which meant that access to the Okapi house was closed too - but I was lucky enough to see this guy wandering about anyway. One of my favourites ...

Mudbathing.

Bird thing.

The bat house ... this is too cool. It's apparently the largest of its kind, basically a big building filled with all types of bats free flying around you. You can feel them brushing past your hair, but it's so dark you can't see them at all. This is a long exposure so you can't see them flying (it's so dark in there you can barely see your hand in front of your face) but you can see some of the giant bats hanging at the top left of the photo...

I absolutly love Okapis they're so unique looking.
The "gopher thing" is a prarie dog, and the "bird thing" is an emu :)

WONDERFUL photos!

Cool pictures, I wish there was a zoo near me.

My local zoo is only half an hour away, so I am quite lucky ... Chester zoo involves an overnight stay, but it's worth it as it's just an amazing place.

Outstanding pictures.....Thank you for sharing them

Thanks Squeaker :) Nothing I like doing better than dragging my camera out and about!

Thanks Jenn - completely agree about the Okapis, they're just amazing animals. Prairie dog makes sense, I always mix up all of the gopher things ... ground squirrels and marmots and prairie dogs and similar critters. I just know that they're all quite cute :dunce:

Great photo shots!! That's amazing quality..I love the Okapi and the lions! I was really hoping to see lion jr. lol...but that's alright..the pics were great! thanks for sharing :0)
