So gee I wasn't expecting to get admitted last night (wall of text)

Corny Noob

Proud Momma
So yesterday morning ever since I woke up I was having constant localized pain to the right of my belly button. I had had some contractions before going to class for the afternoon, but I was a little stressed out so I wasn't thinking much of it. I did however realize by noonish that the pain was constant but was certainly getting worse whenever I was changing positions, especially getting up or sitting down. Yet I went to class anyway, then after that off to my last shift of work.

I didn't even get to clock in because my boss wouldn't let me, I was describing the pains to him and telling him how I was being hesitant in calling my Dr's office because I had an appointment tomorrow (today) anyway, and I didn't want to be one of those worry wort women. Well he said it would really make him feel better if I called my doctor, and wouldn't let me clock in untill I did. So I called them and described the issue, seeing as that it was something difficult to really diagnose over the phone they said better safe then sorry I'd better come in and it would replace my appointment for today.

I drove to my mom's house (and in hindsight I apparently shouldn't have been driving anymore) and got there a little after 3pm, quick pit stop and off to the doctor's I went. (she was gonna come with me to todays appointment so I had called and asked if she wanted to come for this) Just in case, my parents wouldn't let me get into the truck without putting a towel down on the seat just in case my water broke 9_9 my mom also had her hospital bag packed and some stuff for me in case it "was time"

Got to the dr's office around 4:45 and uh...****ing suprise suprise 2 cm dialated (10cm dialated means the heads' aboot to pop out) But the doctor had no idea what the pain was, but just to be sure sent me off for an ultrasound to make sure everything was ok with me and Connor, then told me to go up to the Labor and delivery floor after since the doctor's office would be closed. Had my ultrasound, went up to the 4th floor and I thought I'd just be meeting with him and then going home, instead they put me in evaluation made me get undressed, strapped me to a fetal monitor the whole nine yards. Doctor finally comes back around and says they want to do a slew of blood work on me while waiting for the U/S wet reading results and to have me up to an IV so I stay hydrated. Finally get a ****ing IV line in me and 4 tubes of blood drawn, the U/S was fine, and consequently so was the blood work but they decided to admit me for observation over night.

Better to be safe then sorry and send me home since I live farther away and then have to come back in the middle of the night in labor. *another* Internal exam (I forgot to mention that these hurt so ****ing much)Still 2cm dilated, but according to the monitor I was contracting up a ****ing storm and didn't even realize it. Got me all settled into a room and all rehooked up to that rooms' fetal monitor, after the blood results came back ok they said I could finally eat and since it was way past kitchen hours at 9pm mom went out to the local grocery store and pizza place to go fetch us food stuffs for the evening.

Most uncomfy night of sleep ever, I was nervous because I didn't know what was wrong, in pain because of whatever's going on, in more pain whenever I moved or had a particularly good contraction, tethered to my IV pole or the fetal monitor, which I had to unplug and then drag the wires around with me any time I wanted to pee, which was a lot cause of the IV bag. And every time I moved the wrong way, Connor moved the wrong way or the conducters slipped they had to come readjust the damn monitor. Mom and I just could not sleep very well. Maybe got about 2 hours of the most restless sleep I've ever had in my entire life and when it finally got to be about 5:30 in the morning we just gave up on trying to go back to sleep.

Over the course of the night the constant pain decided to be gone, but was still hurting like all hell if I shifted wrong or whenever I got up to go to the bathroom, but improvement is improvement (and still where I'm at now). Got more blood taken, and breakfast finally came around 8:30 ish. Doctor finally came back around 9:30, another ****ing internal exam, and after all that contracting last night only 2.5 cm dialted. He said I could go home but I'm on bed rest now at least through the weekend so I've been laying around since I got home around 11:30 this morning but I have a feeling this is going to drive me nuts.

He said there is no way I'm going to make it all the way to my due date, however he doesn't think that I'm going to suddenly snap into active labor, given that all the contracting I was doing from about 6pm yesterday to 9pm today only managed .5 of a cm. Interesting to note, when I was having them very constant and consistantly the nurses said that I was having more contractions then their active labor patients....oi.

There's my story.

Summary: Lots of pain, went to doctors got admited to hospital, crappiest night of sleep ever, I am dialated but I'm not delivering yet.

Well, I hope things get better for you and you don't have to have any more internal exams in the near future (owwww) Good luck and fingers crossed for no more pain. Where are you due?

My due date is May 3rd. But in the very beginning it flip flopped around a lot from the last week of april untill it got to where it is now.

Ugh... I feel for you.

My sister went through a very similar situation, so I got a court-side view of the craziness. I know it sounds a bit lame... but keep your chin up and take care of yourself.

I went through a similar situation with my daughter (second child)
minus the localized pain...

I was dialated to 3 for 2 1/2 weeks....then they had to break my water before I went into "active labor:....

My mother's water never broke, but she very clearly went into active labor on her own. The contractions started (at least from what she felt) about 4am in the morning, told my dad not to go to work when he finally got up, they went to the hospital around 1 or so and I was born around 6:30ish.
Mom's hoping for my sake that since I've been having all these contractions and not even feeling it that I'll have a relatively painless labor. Which would be awesome, but also worries me because if the contractions don't notify me a bit more I'll miss'm.

My Daughter-in-law had a very similar situation, but they decided to keep her in, as she had higher blood pressure than they were comfortable with. We stayed with her for two days straight and everything seemed to be settling down, her blood pressure was returning to normal.

She was 2cm dilated all this time, the midwives and doctor suggested we have a break and come home on the Sunday evening, so we did, as we desperately needed proper rest and our Rachel was in agreement. 8am the next morning, we get a call as we're on our way back to the hospital, to say she was in active labour. When we got there she said "now it hurts a bit", but she was still up walking around. By the time the doctor saw her and made the midwife do a pelvic exam, she was 9cm dilated, so off to delivery suite and at 2.02pm our first Grandchild was born :) I'm very proud of her, Rachel, as she didn't even have any pain relief and afterwards she said, it was not as painful as she'd expected.

All I can say is, she definitely knew when she started active labour, so fingers crossed the same happens for you and that it's swift and not too painful :)

Just think, you'll have that beautiful baby to hold and it will all be a distant memory :)

Good luck and best wishes Jenn,

I had a slow labour with my youngest, dilating gradually over 5 days, then 'wham' straight into full delivery within 2 hours of the first actual pain. Here's hoping for a swift and pain-free delivery for our newest member's entrance to the world! x

Thanks a lot guys :)
I like hearing stories that aren't actually terrifying as well, brings about a nice confidence booster.

this is why im glad im a man. sorry you will probably yell at me for that one.

but i hope it doesnt get much worse and everything goes well.

I'm glad to hear everything is okay and I wish you much luck and hope you have a at least less painful delivery :0)

Girl keep us updated! Those boys love to keep ya guessin'! lol
Praying for a fast & painless deliver..:D LY!

I never dialated and didn't have enough water to even have my water break. I only felt contractions once they started to induce IF I was looking at the fetal monitor. I went C-section. Amazing how fast they can get you into a surgery room when the decision is made. The most painful thing for me was when they gave me the spinal. Took 8 shots. I was ready to get off the table and let her come when she wanted :) She's been a dream child ever since.

I'm sending all the positive vibes I can spare your way!

Oh it's getting so near! I'm so excited for you and I'm glad to hear everything is ok :)

Best of luck to you, your fiance and the new wee man!

Yeah Ginger, when I was contracting all that time, I couldn't honestly tell if I felt the contractions because I really could, or if I was convincing myself that I did because I could see the peaks on the monitor. I still think I might be having contractions but I'm not entirely sure.

I guess now that we're technically over this blip I should start getting excited again because it means I'm going to be a mommy soon, but I'm still very very nervous!

Been there done that:)...
3 healthy boys (now all over 5 years old!)...

They all have their own story...
first one-preterm labor stopped...delivered a week early healthy 9 pound boy...36 hours labor
2nd one-hit by a car (140 yr old man removed the front bumper of the car I was driving)...Preterm labor stopped...Healthy 9pound5oz boy delivered a couple months later..6 hours labor.
3rd one-Dilated to 4 cm when everything stopped on its own...then 2 weeks later delivered a beautiful 10pound 4oz boy...4 hours labor:)

By the way I have a friend who had your exact scenario. When the time really came...she thought she had the flu..cramps but not really bad...thankfully it happened to be on a OB check up day...she was dilated to 9cm!!! She delivered about 20 minutes later...so maybe go in a bit earlier...the worst that can happen is you pace the halls for a bit longer:)

I am so excited for you...getting to hold that little one for the first time is surreal:)

Best wishes!

Wow! You've got yourself some big genes there for some big healthy babes!

I do also live about 45 minutes away from the hospital, because of this before all of this even happened we already determined that I should leave when contractions were farther apart than most people would leave for the hospital. Because I certainly don't want to be stuck in a situation when labor is *too* quick and I don't have enough time to realize what's even happening!

Hehehe...yeah, I gues you could say we were Het for big kids...since I am not even 5'4" and kind of a small build and my hubby is about 5'9"...

It is always fun to see what those little ones surprise you with:)

I am VERY glad to hear that you plan to hit the road on the early side...
I hope everything goes smoothly for you...

(remember if you have an epidural to either stay sitting up straight or immediately roll onto your back...otherwise the medicine only numbs the half of your body you are lying on the side of and the other half feels EVERYTHING...live and learn:))
