Pet Corn Snake

Hey, I have used stick on thermometers for 2 years now, I was just wonder how accurate they actually are.. I mean, I have one thermostat that run's two corn snake tanks, both tanks read 80F on there stick on thermometer, if the temp goes up, both thermometers go up, same if the temp goes down.
I was just wondering, if they are made for reptile tanks, and placed ontop of the substrate "not on the side of the tank" then why are people so quick to insult them? People who created accessories for reptiles, must have some knowledge in reptiles..
I'm actually going to get a digital thermometer soon, but I'm worried that I'll have to go round about 20 times a day checking all the tanks are the right temps, or buy 5 £15 thermometers which with my financial status right now is impossible.
