Yesterday I set up every thing for my future snake I have a 75 gal tank
so I bought a ZOO-MED UTH Size 30-40 gal & ZOO-MED'S REPTI-TEMP
rheostat. I have a thermometer with the probe right over the UTH & Aspen substrate. I set the rheostat to the lowest setting but temp is still going over 100 degrees is my rheostat just not working right or am I doing something wrong.

Zoo Med rheostats never seem to work..I have heard so many stories about them just not working right or even at all...I would say bring the rheostat back and you can always just go to wal-mart and buy parts to make your own for under 10.00...do a search on the forum and you should find the post that tells you how to do this..Everyone who has done it says it works great for them...I am more of a thermostat fan so I went to "Reptilesupply.com" and bought a Repti-Temp500R thermostat for 20.00 plus shipping...Not that bad in the long run..it currently runs two uth and I've never had a problem...Up to you if you want a thermostat or rheostat..but the zoo med one just isn't going to cut it.

Thanx I was going to buy the Repti-Temp500R thermostat but I didn't see it at my petsmart I thought the rheostat would work so I got that I'll be taking it back tonight.

Yep, the rheostats don't work very well. I would suggest at least a low-end thermostat. rheostats just dim the electricity so if your room temps change so will the UTH temps.

i have done it and it didnt work at all for me and im pretty good with wiring stuff up

ah well..guess not everyone then...before you I just hadn't heard any failure attempts to it..

I recently got a Newtek Thermostat with my newest setup. I have been extremely happy with it and would recommend it. The store I found it at was selling it for about the same price as the zoomed rheostat. It has a dial with actual temperatures on it! and it is extremely accurate. 80 degrees set into the dial shows up as 80 degrees on my thermometer. You still need a thermometer obviously but its nice not to have to guess with temps I much prefer to set the temp to "80" rather then "orange with some red" or "orange with some yellow" haha.
