My little boy has being shedding every month, just one incomplete shed, the other sheds were perfect :dancer:, but I was wondering, why they shed? is it mainly because they are groing? or just to have a "clean" skin, thx =)
because they are growing. They shed the skin all at once, not constantly like we do. When a snake is injured, though, say from a burn, it will shed more frequently to heal the injury, or so I have heard.
The outer skin on a snake is dead cells. It doesn't grow and it doesn't stretch. In order for the snake to grow it needs to shed. When freshly shed the skin is soft, moist and pliant (like Nanci's). After a little while it dries and becomes more of an armor.
