Pine viv?

My husband has built a 3-tier pine viv for our Corns and BPs.....but right this second I remembered that pine shavings are a no-no!!:uhoh: So, did we just spend $200 and many many building hours on something that we cannot use?!?!:eek1:

The vivs are pine on all sides but the front, which is plexi-glass. The floor will have lenoliam glued down for easy cleaning and have Aspen shavings on top of that.

These vivs are big...2ft x 3ft and 2ft tall.

I'm thinking that it will be fine since the snakes will not be laying on the pine. But I wanted to ask some opinions as well!

I'd say you'll be fine. Especially if the wood is painted or sealed in some way. The volatile oils in pine are what cause the problems, so if you seal the woood you should effectively seal them in and prevent them from harming your snake.

I would have to say on top of sealing the wood seal your seams as well that's a good place for bacteria to live.

You should be fine. I've built several vivs out of pine. I sealed them with a water based sealant though, and then let that cure forever before ever introducing a snake. But if you seal it up real well, should not be a problem.

And, I know there is one poster here, Vinman I believe, who uses pine shavings with great success. I personally wouldn't do it or recommend it, but he's had success with it, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
