Can this be used???? (Rack system inquire)

Maize411

Hooked for life!!
I want to make a rack system for my snakes using the 31 qt. containers and their covers..but to make sure the snakes don't push the covers up..I need a rack system that I can control the height so that it makes a tight enough fit for the container to slide in but tight enough to where the cover can't be pushed up..I think this looks like a possible solution but I'm not sure..has anyone else used this? Any success??? Any other suggestions? I'm open to anything affordable right now as I don't have a lot of money to spend at all...Any advice is welcome...

Here is the rack I'm considering..I think you can control the space between each shelf by 1 in. increments...http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=4433074

That's what I use (I got it at Wal-Mart, also)...
But I doubt you can make a "rack" with it. You would just have to buy tubs with tops on them (that's what I do) or buy a regular wood shelf or you can make one yourself... I might take a picture to show you or something...

I used that very same rack until quite recently. You won't be able to set it up so that the upper shelf holds down the lids for the next shelf under, because each shelf has a lip that wouldn't let you pull out the tub if it was that tight.
I used it with binder clips on my tubs (four on each) and I ran some flexwatt tape wired so it only had one plug.

Worked great! Just not as much a space saver as my current set up.

Hey Tom..what kind of system do you have right now?

and I would love to see some pics of both of your racks :0) (no punt intended..)

Those are the ones I use, but the larger 5 shelf model that's four feet long, also a couple that are five feet. The reason I use those, is that I have tubs and tanks, so they mix well on the adjustable shelves. They are also nice for when you upgrade tub sizes because you can adjust them to fit the new sizes.

I should also mention that you'll still have to use binder clips on the sides to hold the lids down in those areas, and in the case of my Hondo's, I put a weight on top of them as well... I also use the racks to hold my rodent tanks too. Here's some shots of the snake/rodent room...

Sorry, the man boob thing is highly discouraged around these parts, lol.

Just kidding. I bought two of the Animal Plastics racks like Nanci bought, only I got them in white. They really aren't that expensive, when you consider what we all pay for in snakes. Only thing I would suggest if you do it, is buy more rack than you need. We all know how that goes..

Here's a picture of mine from when I first set them up...
