Angry...!

After work I asked if I could get a boa and my parents won't let me get a baby.. They won't even listen to my suggestions on making my bedroom secure..
This is the first time they have stopped me getting a reptile and it has made me really angry! When my mum was younger she had horses and I'm pretty sure if a horse wanted to, it could cause far more damage than a male 5-7 ft boa.
This is my hobby and it makes me angry that they have tried to stop me taking the next step..
I know they have my baby brother to think about about, and the darn local pet shop man said it's not good to have dogs cats or small children when having a boa in the same house...!! :/
So that's made them paranoid :/
Maybe I'll have to get something the same size but with a name that does not include boa

Orrrrr, you could do what I did. I grew up and got my own place........(well, ok I admit it, I never actually grew up.........)

Perhaps you could try to compromise with them and get a SMALLER boa constrictor. Get a male Nic, or a caulker cay, or a....... et cetera. I'm not sure how common they are over there, but they do have SMALL boas that are "less scary" that still make good pets for the wannabe boa keeper.

That's what I'd do!

I'm not the best role-model to follow. I just went out and got one anyways. haha. But that was only about 5 months before I moved out. But they also didn't know I wanted one. They thought I was fine with my one cornsnake (also never asked permission to get). Then after I left home, in almost 2 years, I've acquired 21 snakes, total. So just be patient. You can get your boa eventually, but just now might not be the time!

I want my own place eventually, I crave my own independence. However behind the hard faced teenager that I can sometimes be, I love the fact that my mum cooks my tea and run's my bath, I feel secure and why break that security?
My mums advise was to get more Ball pythons, she says that they can grow to a nice size.
I suppose there is many different types of snake out there, and I like the suggestion about getting a smaller boa..

I just feel really angry she said NO.
I don't think my parents understand what my reptiles mean to me. They are my entire life and I would do anything for them.

You should consider yourself lucky IMO, you have a very nice collection already. I wasn't allowed any reptile in my Parents house and had to wait until i moved out before i could consider getting one.

Your Mum sounds pretty cool to me, especially if her alternative was "Get more Ball Pythons"

Don't be angry with them. Telling your kids "no" is not always fun or easy. Sounds like they are making the best decisions they can in their minds. It is their house, and like it or not, their rules. FWIW, my parents would have defacated a chicken had I brought a snake home. When I was a kid, I wanted a guitar really bad. My parents either did not think I would stick with it or that my schoolwork would suffer, so I did not get one. Once I graduated, I took the money I got as gifts and bought myself one. Now, 20+ years later, I am still playing. They wish they would have bought it now, but they made the best decision they could and stuck by it. Just be thankful that they love and care about you and your siblings. You will get your boa soon enough and it will mean even more to you. One day you will understand their decision even if you still don't agree with it. I am really not trying to lecture you, just trying to put it in a bit of perspective. Parent's aren't perfect, but sounds like they are doing the best they can. You don't have to agree with their decisions, but try at least to understand their point of view and respect it. Lots of other great smaller snakes!

I'll just spend this week's wage's on more stuff for my current reptiles and maybe a few more giant african land snails

Also, just so you know there are people creating some great dwarf boas and pythons. They are a bit pricey still, but something to look into. Some of the more popular snake morphs, only smaller sizes!

Be happy, because you're lucky. There's probably some kid your age out there begging his parents to get their first pet, but can't get one. You already have (a) snake(s).

Don't get more land snails... they are taking up valuable snake space...I've already told you to stop diversifying.....
I would go and ask if you can have a smaller Boa, one that is smaller than a Ball python....Then just get a baby boa...When it starts going past the 5 ft mark , tell your mam, how lucky you are to have a genetic abnormality....LOL She'll love it when she sees it and won't be fazed when it grows... Well it worked for us with my wife....
And when my boss found out I 'played' with venomous on my days off. I pointed out that over 20 people died last year from horse accidents in the UK.. (he rides) and none died from venom related accidents..... Then I pointed out rock climbing accidents (his secretary) pot holing accidents (chief engineer) mountain biking (his PA) LOL
Work at it George... but bide your time... Don't rush in and upset things.... Wait until a Friday night when you've all had a good meal and the vino is flowing, then ask....

I would just like to say though;
all my pets mean the same to me lol. Poppy my Giant african land snail, she's funny as ...

But it's just a stop gap until you can get reptiles... Ask your self ...What would I prefer a snake or a snail.....the snail is instant, but takes up floor space... Stop diversifying and realise where you want to be in 1 yr, 5 yrs, 10 yrs.......It's more adult and your mam will see that.....

Actually, I would answer that question with *both* Space can be made, we have two spare rooms in this house
And if you give GAL's a chance you would know how cool they are! I understand what your saying, but GAL's are awesome!

You're the luck one. In most places in the US it is against the law to buy a gal and I would never ask my mother if I could have one.
