Hovabator fluctuates

ForkedTung

Serpent Mound Monk
I had my Hovabator set at about 80-82o F, and after about a month it dropped to 76o, it may be because it was set during a small heat wave here in Ohio. Anyway it's back down to 76o again and starting to P me off ( I heard after I bought it that this is a problem with them? anyone else hear this?). I'll build my own next year.
so I'm going to slowly bump it up again to 82o, but the question is:

Does anyone know if this maximum of 6 degree fluctuation will affect the developing hatchlings? ( I imagine in a natural environment it would be much more?) thanks, Kyle

I've noticed the same thing. I just leave a thermometer in there and check often and keep adjusting the knob. I've bumped it up too much before as there is a delayed time between adjusting and the new temp kind of leveling off. I try to heat it in small increments b/c I'm afraid of cooking eggs. I don't think lower temps fluctuating would be as risky as higher ones. maybe just delay your hatch date. I really don't like the metal knob those things have to adjust the temp and I have noticed over time the heating element can become loose so the knob feels like it's turning the whole thing.
I've had the same hovabator since 2003 so this is the 6th year I've used it lol I guess I'm getting my money's worth.
