ASF's noises?

I've got a question for all those that keep African soft furred rats. I got 1.3 young ASF's today and have set them up in a 3ft glass aquarium in the living room.

They seem to be settling in quite nicely, but I'm curious to find out if anyone else has heard their ASF's making noises, it's a sort of squeaking, chuffling noise, a little like the noises guinea pigs make, as if they are talking to each other? I've been scouring the net for info, and there hasn't been a single mention about them making noises, on the sites I've found so far. It does sound really cute, and they seem to do it most when they meet up, while moving around the tank. So I'd like to know if it's just like a greeting, or if it's because they are stressed, unhappy etc :shrugs: All opinions welcome

i keep quite a few of these, personally i have never heard them make any noises, but then again, i have about 300 -400 mice, and i have one male mouse, that always makes wierd noises, and none of the others do it, it sounds really cute, i think its down to the individual animal, like humans, some are more vocal that others lol

but i wouldnt be worried, i would just let them settle in, give them lots of places to hide, empty cardboard boxes, and toilet roll tubes are loved by them!

I've never heard any noises from them that I have noticed..

It might be an upper respiratory infection, I have had mice and rats make wierd noises when they were sick.

If it were a rat or mouse I'd hold it up to my ear to listen for any noises in their breathing, but I'd never attempt it with a juvenile or older ASF.

Well, I have held them up to my ear, yeah sounds brave but they are as good as gold at the moment, and there are no untoward noises with their breathing.

They made a lot more noise when I first got them, now only if I disturb them do they make a noise like guinea pigs, just not as loud :shrugs:

I have about 20 ASF's and have never heard them making noises. All I hear is there exercise wheels turning.

Those are very strange looking ASFs...lol

I have not heard mine make any kind of squeaks or anything like that. They do "click" quite loudly though, especially when the babies are talking to mom.
