ASFs for corns?

I know some of you use ASFs for your corn snakes. How well does that work out?

Are newborn ASFs small enough for new hatchling corns? If not, would it work to feed only a head? Or maybe alternate head one feeding, remaining body the next to be sure the snake is getting the right nutritional balance?

Also, I would guess full sized adult ASFs are too big for corns since they are the right size for BPs? Although in my case that wouldn't be too bad since I have BPs also to eat up the adults.

I used them exclusively for a while, but have since phased them out and gone back to mice. I have one colony lingering, but they aren't producing much any more.

newborn pinks are about the size of 2-3 day old mouse pinks, so they are a little too big for the really small hatchlings.

Biggest retired breeders are up to 90g or so, a bit too large even for my biggest corn. Average adults are closer to 60g which is just barely small enough.

My corns also seemed to grow really fast when they were on ASF exclusively, a couple bordering on overweight, even though always fed on a 7 day schedule as adults.

For the past year almost my female corn has eaten ASF. She has eaten everything from pinkies to adults with not problems. I also have a black rat that eats these.

Yes, you need to be carefull on the amount you feed them if your corn is in a a smaller cage like a 20 gal tank or even a 3x5 for they might not get enough exersize to work them off. We have a home built cage that has a upper level an lower which is a 3x5x2 and I keep an eye one her so when she gets a bit heavy I back off on feedings and let her roam around out of cage a bit.

Not feeding your ASF alot of corn will help, which most pellet food has in mass. I tend not to feed pellet for they do not like it much. They prefer the grains and seed and veggis. I also have my ASF in a multi floor cage so they get more exersize too which is very important for them being higher strung. The best thing about them is that they do not smell hardly at all and they tend to go in one area which makes cleaning a breeze.

I got ASF because I wanted my snakes eating something healther than the store bought mice. Since they have big litters I always have food on hand and I can feed whatever size I want. So do not worry about adult being to big you can always feed smaller. If you need to get rid of adults I am sure you can find someone with a rat snake or a BP or Boa to help you out there.
