Road Cruise 7/14/08 (bad news)

Not to much tonight, but I did have some good luck with C. Viridis tonight. Saw two, each about 1/3 apart on the same road. I've only seen 2 other live ones before, and that was last season. Also saw lots of B. woodhousii, and a couple DOR T. Elegans.


These sweethearts weren't aggressive at all, pics were taken without so much as a rattle. They were then moved off the road and left alone.

I think it's cool how she was so flat, I almost thought she was dead when I first spotted her.




And the second one, about the same size, 4 - 4.5 FT.




I went back to the spot where I saw the first one, and there were 2 cars there full of people and a lady with what looked like a broom, hitting the snake and chopping at it. It pissed me off pretty bad, but what can you do? Ignorance is bliss.. :headbang:

That's when you grab the broom and start whacking HER with it. See how much she likes it. J/k. Don't get yourself thrown in jail. But seriously, take the broom away from the crazy @#$%& and show them how to SAFELY move the snake off the road.

lol tried that. They pulled the "we got kids and dogs" excuse after I offered to relocate the snake about a million times. They just wanted to kill it and they did. Jail or no jail I was mad enough to hurt somebody but there was just way to many people around and a rattler in the middle of us does NOT make for a good fight.

Push 'em out of the way and relocate anyways. Or call the police for animal abuse.

BEAUTIFUL! Just awesome creatures, ain't they? Do you happen to know which subspecies that is? It looks like it might be a Hopi rattler(C.v. nuntius), but I am not sure which of the two subspecies are in your area...

It is C. v. Viridis (prairie rattlesnake).

She killed it? That sucks.

That really sucks they killed the snake.

I wouldn't have let them. Even if it's not protected in your area if you told them it was and the DNR would be knocking on their door they would have backed off. Everyone's all high and mighty until they find out they will pay a price for their actions.

Sounds like rattlers are common place in your area so try it the next time you come across the ignorant f'ks.

our government is really stupid 99.99% of the time. they dont make laws and regulations for the things that need to be made illegal, and they make the things that seem completely pointless illegal.
