Jonathan Dickinson State Park (FL)

My family moved to Florida this week (Hobe Sound, SE coast) and we took a morning trip to Jonathan Dickinson State park. Had a pretty nice time....we were really hoping to see some snakes (especially a corn snake!)....but alas, we only saw one snake and couldn't catch it....pics to follow. Also caught a few other small things, thought we would share pictures.

You're here! That's a black racer- very difficult to catch and will bite the you-know-what out of you and probably never tame down.

The gopher tortoise- don't pick one up unless you're moving it out of traffic. They will usually pee, and this can be fatal for the tortoise. They store water in their bladders and use it as their bodies need it. When it rains, they pee out all the old water and refill. If the tortoise expends its supply of water peeing in fright, it may not have a chance to restock before it dies from no water.

I don't know the lizard, and the toad is probably a Southern Toad.

I've heard there are good moutain biking trails at that park.

That's the House Gecko. There's so many lizards there,
I caught bahama anole, green anole, 5-lined skink, other kind of skink,
and such more.

The black racer, I caught couple of these.
Florida usually have so many snakes. When going mudding in dried up lake,
you will find so many snakes. I caught glass snake, adder, cottonmouth,
garter, and racer there. I miss those days.

I lived in SW coast, in Lee County.
Born and raised there, then finally moved up here in NC nearly a year ago.
It's so nice here, cheaper also!
Congrats about moving to Florida, I hope you like it!
I kinda miss Florida, but I do miss the beach. lol
