Poor Cosmo!

Lynnea

That's "lin-NAY-ah"
When I went outside this morning to bring in our dogs from the backyard, I was horrified to find Cosmo, our one-year old English bulldog, with a totally swollen face--his eyes were almost swollen shut!! Thankfully, he was breathing fine, and I rushed him to the vet. They gave him Benedryl and a shot of Dex, which immediately started to take effect.

I took these photos this evening. As you can see, the swelling is still there, and right now he looks more like a Sharpei than a Bulldog--trust me, his face is really swollen! The vet ruled out a snake bite, so my guess is he got into a yellow jacket's nest. I'm going to look around tomorrow. I got attacked last year when I was pulling weeds and pulled up a whole nest--got stung about 7 times. UGH, hate them things (fire ants, too)!!

Cosmo is still on the Benedryl and Pred for a few more days. Poor fella!! :awcrap:

Oh that poor little sweetpea! That's just heartbreaking....hope he's feeling better soon. :(

Oh man, I feel so sorry for him. This has happened to my Chihuahua, twice. One time, they said that if I hadnt gotten him in when I did, he would have died. His muzzle was the width of his head, eyes swollen shut, hives all over him and even in his ears. Nothing had been changed in his eating and he got up that way, after a long nights sleep. They figure that he had been bitten by a spider but we dont know for sure. I keep benadryl on hand all of the time and if he starts to get hives or swell up, I give him one, immediately. (my vets advice) So far, so good. I hope that your poor baby gets to feeling better in a really short time.

Hugs to you and him

What a great name for a dog!!! Hope Cosmo feels better soon! Be careful if you go looking for that nest!

Fortunately for me, except for the pain of the actual stings, I don't respond at all... not even a welt. I think I've been stung (by bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, etc.) in excess of 30 times (I couldn't leave hives alone as a kid -- well, even today!). :twoguns:
