Dividing a tank

Hi I'm new here and I am going to be getting corn snake or a hognose.I have a 4ft tank and i was going divide it with a piece of glass and what I wanted to know is if i could just take a heat mat and put it in the middle so it is on both side and put a thermostat on one side. That would work good right?I would think both sides would stay the same but just wondering if any one has done this.
Thanks for the help.Great site BTW ,I have been reading a ton since I found it.

Hey, I've divided my tank, and it works perfect.
I put heat mat in the middle on the side of tank, because my tank is on dresser.
Make sure you make it fit, get perfect measure, and let the guy to cut the plexisglass for you. I had mine cut 1/2 inches short, so I put cardboard on top to prevent from going over to side.
My picture is in "New Item added to viv"..you will see.
